    I'm not on the "right" but I do find myself drifting ever further away from the left thanks to all or nothing types.

    I do too to a degree but I just don't feel sympathy when he preaches something and then on other hand breaks the law in other ways.

    I don't think criticising Islam or even Muslims is racist per se, but it can very much overlap with racism and xenophobia too. That having been said, blanketly portraying all Muslims as being inherently dangerous, or disloyal or as Robinson said about people in a residential area - "enemy combatants" - is bigoted and it's a form of scapegoating. Especially when it's tied into a wider pan-European far right that's also holds those views toward people like trade unionists, immigrants, Africans etc etc.

    As I've said in this thread a million times, you aren't going to find videos of Robinson calling people n*ggers and the like but you will find that he has either been in or been extremely close to and allied to organisations that are unashamedly and explicitly racist in their politics. Over a 14 year period he has been a member of the EDL, the BNP, the BFP which has espoused or contained people with extreme racist politics and is also great mates with Generation Identity who are proper biological blood and soil racists. I saw them last Saturday, being clapped and cheered as they marched.

    So is Robinson a neo-Nazi? No he isn't. But is he someone on the European far right pushing an ultra-nationalist, bigoted and exclusionary type of politics based on scapegoating? Yes he is. This isn't solely about anger over terrorists and paedos here.

    Sorry but that excuse is utter tripe when you've got the likes of Tommy Robinson and his EDL buddies, Le Pen and the whole identitiarian movement that most modern right wing politics are based on, the outright proud neo Nazism of the alt-right and the fascist cult that is Trumpism on the other end.

    If you're going to try and paint sides by their furthest elements, then that is what represents 'the right'.

    This is a recently written opinion article about political correctness & populism , its accessment about Tommy Robinson is spot on.
    " The largest abuse of British girls in modern history; cowardice prevailed over human rights, political correctness over reasoned discourse. The similarities of censorship and fear with the Soviet era are alarming to those acquainted with this part of twentieth-century history. In an environment of fear and retribution, the most heinous crimes will be ignored and the most intolerant acts will be tolerated.

    In the case of this particular scandal, anti-Islam activist Tommy Robinson has filled the void. You can learn more about Tommy’s story from his speech at the Oxford Union. This working-class lad from Luton in the United Kingdom has over 900,000 Facebook followers. This is more than the British Prime Minister, Theresa May. He is currently serving a 13-month prison sentence for being in contempt of court. He pleaded guilty to filming outside court during a grooming gang trial, while already on a suspended sentence for the same offence.

    Tommy founded the English Defence League (EDL) street-protest movement in 2009, leaving the organisation in 2013. These days he creates and distributes videos and social media posts that he believes expose the dangers of Islamisation in Britain. His particular focus from the beginning of the EDL up to the present day has been grooming gangs. Some say his content suggests all Muslims engage in this behaviour and is therefore extremely divisive. Others say he is quite simply a racist, a fascist, Islamophobic or alt-Right.

    Whatever you deem him to be, I’ll leave to your personal judgement. However, the issue at hand here is, why has Tommy Robinson become so popular? Why does he have a larger social media following than the British Prime Minister? Like many populists, he has been willing to talk about a deeply controversial issue that traditional mainstream outlets plainly refuse to talk about. He’s not the only populist to surge in popularity in this manner. He’s certainly not the first, and certainly won’t be the last.

    It’s surreal to witness a panel of social commentators sitting around a table trying to ascertain why these movements grow, looking dumbfounded, all the while abiding by the tacit rule that the issues enabling these movements to grow in the first place cannot be spoken of. In the case of Tommy Robinson, it is pre-eminently the grooming gang epidemic. As has been made clear in this article, the intricacies of the grooming gang scandal simply cannot be spoken of, unless you wish to end up at the jobcentre the next day."

    Broke the law but clearly the trial process was flawed as the judge has said today. So hopefully this gets sorted soon and Islamism can be exposed again.

    Tommy Robinson™ is on record defending paedophiles. He has also knowingly endangered the conviction of paedophiles. There's plenty of threads for what you are shoehorning in here, but we are discussing Tommy™ here.

    You could call them defenders of pedophiles, yes, but Backwards man is factually correct here. Tommy was vocally supportive of EDL member Richard Price following his conviction for possession of child pornography. In fairness, he did backtrack on this later on, condemning his actions and stating that Price had never been a leading figure in the EDL. This came across to a lot of people as bull**** though as old facebook posts re-surfaced later where Tommy named Mr Price as a member of EDL management and crediting him as co-founder of the group.

    Wouldn't go that far but there has been too much sweeping under the carpet of the grooming, assault, rape and murder* of these girls.

    If it takes someone going to jail to try to get through to sceptics and do-gooders the sheer size of the problem, good on them.
