So your definition of 'works fine' includes :

One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old

    https://www.nsvrc.org/statistics

So you think those stats would be less with shorter prison sentences?

You think if her father tried to stick to Christian values he'd have ended up dealing drugs to kids, shacked up with some teenage girl, bringing this filth into Alesha's life?

Alesha's father is not responsible for the unspeakable acts of violence inflicted on his daughter.
His choice of lifestyle does not justify what happened to her.

Give over and stop making this about religion.

You don't need Christianity to have decent values. Given the track record of the Churches on sexual abuse of children, it is not in any position to cast stones.

I'd far prefer to see people finding their decent values through their innate humanity rather than be depending on fictional stories from a couple of millennia back.

And I'd also prefer to see this stuff studied more. There's a tendency amongst religious people to say that someone who commits these crimes was evil or a monster. The fact was that he was human with a brain like any of us. I think we should study to see if we can work out how and why this happened to him. What causes someone like him to be the way he is.

We know a hell of a lot more now than we did 50 years ago. It may take centuries to find out but we have to keep trying because if anything we learn can prevent this just once, then it will be worth it.

Why on earth was she allowed to stay out on an island with a drug dealing father who kept company with utter scum.

If he supplied fella with drugs and those drugs accelerated a psychosis, then he bares some blame.

This case must not have had much media attention as I only became aware of it today. Jesus Christ, what that poor little girl must have went through before she died. That bastard is clearly psychotic and should never be released. I can only hope that as his identity is now revealed, that in whatever prison he ends up in, he spends his remaining days enjoying the same level of comfort and attention that Otto received in Sons of Anarchy. A quick death would be far too kind for him.

It does not take a genius to work out that a chaotic background with no boundaries combined with a low warmth, aggressive, inconsistent, style of parenting is unlikely to produce a productive member of society.

I hope they name and shame the two scumbags from Leixlip who murdered poor Anastasia Kriegel last summer in Lucan when they are sent to trial and found guilty! If they are old enough to take someone's life they should lose the right to protect their identity when they are convicted same as this piece of crap!

We are way more "forgetful" society. Sure the gang rape in leixlip a few years before that perpetrated by a group from same school, all under age all forgotten about, except by the victim. In fact if I remember, one is now playing in LoI.

DM describing him as having a metrosexual fashion sense.

Jesus, haven't heard that term since 2006.

Alesha lived 60 miles away in Airdrie with her mother. She was only on a visit with her father and staying at her grandparents', his parents, home. And for all we know the visit was court ordered. It was mentioned in court that his parents played down reports of domestic abuse between him and girlfriend due to the upcoming custody case between him and Alesha's mother. Perhaps the mother was trying to prevent the access?

Ah here, it's not the mothers fault in any way. Mothers who try to deny fathers access, which is for the kids protection in many cases, are also hated on here. Can't win.

    Thats so not fair.

I understand her Mum and Alesha lived In what would be described as a rough area.

The Mum looked like she was not well off.

Being poor is not a crime, its circumstances.

Does not mean she loved her little girl any less.

She comes across as being young, and absolutely at a loss as to how this happened .

She needs help and support now, not being looked down on.

Like the way murder stats are much less in Europe than USA, with their full life prison sentances?

At a time of stress and grief more than most of us can ever imagine, the woman had a bottle of the most popular soft drink in her country which she had drank half of. Wtaf could anyone think that tells them about her?:mad:

My son is six. The same age as the victim here. I can tell you now that the only way I'd be upright and walking in a situation like Georgina (Alesha's mother) would be if I was tranquillised to the eyeballs. I would want to die. But not before I saw the scum that caused me this pain to get convicted.

To me she looked like a young mum. Probably not loaded, probably doing the best she could. She might have thought her ex was a stoner and a waster or whatever, but he does come across as having genuine love for his daughter. And besides, Granny and Grandad were there. And it's a quiet island where it's relatively safe. You worry that the grandparents will fill her up with sugar and bugger up her bedtime routine. You aren't exactly worrying about 16yo psychopaths next door taking an unhealthy interest in your little child.

And have a bit of heart. She sent her child off on her summer holidays to her dad. Probably thought "great, a lie in!" then she wakes up, checks her facebook and there's her daughter missing on it. And a few hours into processing that and trying to find out more information or to get to the area, she finds out also via facebook that her baby has been raped and murdered.

But judge away for her carrying an Irn Bru.
    Jesus.

Yeah but if you are going to say something daft then expect to be pulled up on it.

Genuinely, what is so wrong about walking out of a courtroom with half a fizzy drink and looking a bit dazed?

Surely if we are judging the parents here the drug dealing-to-minors dad with a just about legal girlfriend and who couldn't be arsed to even read a bedtime story to his child on her first night of a three week visit to his home and instead putting on a Peppa DVD in order to go and have a **** to porn is a juicer prospect to clutch the pearls in judgemental outrage at than a mum carrying a half a bottle of Irn Bru?

3 people had issues with your post and they commented and they all had a mask to slip?
Or maybe your comment was out of order.
Also you didn't just make an observation, you made an assumption, a judgement.

What has Irn Bru got to do with anything? The way that sentence is framed I was expecting you to say vodka or buck fast. You know Irn Bru is a soft drink yeah?

Id consider myself to be fairly left leaning and dont have any empathy for this psychopath. I dont understand why'd youd use the horrific rape and murder of a child to as a stick to bash other people with.

If he's capable of doing something so vile at 16 imagine what he'll be like in 10 years? Lock him up and throw away the key.

These types of events have a profound effect in these sorts of communities which save for the accent are pretty much a clone of rural Ireland.

The perpetrator is obviously a damaged young man who has to be removed from society for who knows how long for, hopefully the victims can rebuild their lives which will never be the same.
