I didn't realise there was only one season?

I watched one of the "movies" when I was a teenager at a friend's house and seems like someone had tried to edit the show into an hour and a half?

Think I saw somewhere that it's a new dub. So dunno how whiny Shinji will be. :)

You might have seen one of the "Rebuild" movies.

The first one, 1.0 (2007) is sort of a recap of the first third of the original series, then 2.0 (2009) and 3.0 (2012) are off on a different tangent altogether. 4 (supposed to be called 3.0 + 1.0) might be released next year - after an 8 year gap.

Interested to see what the new dub is like.

EDIT: I forgot about Death and Rebirth - it might have been Death you watched - essentially a 67 minute clip show of the whole series.

Sounds like Death alright, it was definitely before 2007 anyway!

Looking forward to binging the whole lot, my OH is a big fan and has wanted me to watch it for years.

Death and Rebirth is up as well. Or a certain if it called Death (True) squared. Dunno how to do the squared 2.:)

Friend of mine was introduced and suitably confused via Death + Rebirth too. You can basically ignore it - anime series are sometimes released as theatrical films that just cut together episodes of the show haphazardly. At the time it contained the first chunk of End of Evangelion so was a big deal, now it’s just a curio.

So yeah the only order that matters is Neon Genesis followed by End of Evangelion - that’s the original story in its complete form. Then there’s the rebuild film doing their own thing, whenever the heck Anno decides to finish it.

Watched loving the other night which was a fantastic movie. Ruth Negga is so good in the lead role, never understood how someone like Sorise Ronan (who is a decent actress) gets all this acclaim while Ruth Negga while Oscar nominated for her role seems to fly under the radar.

Watched The Guilty last night. Decent Danish movie.

Boo Netflix, sadly inevitable they managed to screw up what was basically a home run in some stupid way:

I think the only reasonable and eminently sensible way to solve this is to send death threats (and rape threats if they're women) to everyone in Netflix, promising to burn down their houses and torture their grannys until this absolutely critical issue is resolved.

Very talented that Ruth Negga - flying under the radar and getting Oscar nominated at the same time.

Is a lot of the music missing? I really like some of the tracks like decisive battle, the beast, angel attacks. Think it would be ok without fly me to the moon.

    Congratulations.

edit: I think it's just that one song that's missing

Tales of the city is very mediocre

Evangelion has a new English dub, as they couldn't get rights to the original dub. The original dub was not great so odds are good it is an improvement, with the characters sounding more like they do in the Japanese version.

edit: New English dub is not great. They override part of the direction when the characters sound fundamentally different. Maybe they need Japanese people to do the dub to recreate the same tones.

Yes I think I’ll finish it regardless but it isn’t great.

It’s a pity cos it had a few good moments but they were few and far between

Yeah the original music is intact - would've been purpose written so no rights issues there! There's a few mid-episode Fly Me To The Moon music cues missing as well.

Just a shame that FMTTM has been cut - for end credits music, it actually does a substantial amount of work in terms of giving each episode a moody, unusual outro. Lot of work went into all those different arrangements so it's a bummer to see them cut. I'm just a bit of a purist when it comes to these things :)

I'm about half way through Evangelion now, seems pretty conventional so far but I know it's going to go off the deep end any episode now :D

One thing I can't get over is how much other shows have lifted from it, Kuromukuro(which I enjoyed a fair bit) is practically a reimagining/remake without the more out there stuff and a Samurai chucked in. The setting and quite a few of the characters are almost identical!

The Happytown Murders is a grown-up version of the Muppet Movie. Very funny in parts.

I would of said she flatters to deceive, except she's a pretty good actress. And I would have said sack her agent, but maybe she has the same agent as Adam Sandler; make a splash, then pick **** films that still somehow manage to make money.

She is an excellent actress, I thought she was brilliant in can you ever forgive me.
However the happytown murders is utterly dreadful
Also it would help if she stopped starring in films directed by her husband, which are generally awful.

Halfway through Happy season 2. They fairly doubled down on how weird that show is.

Started S2 of Dark but feel I'd need to rewatch S1 to have any clue what's going on.

It was hard enough to keep track of S1 when I was watching it but a year later and I'm struggling to remember what the deal was with half the characters - the 2 minute recap at the start of the first episode was pretty useless.

My brain is just getting too old.

Hmm. I dunno. It depends on what you mean by better. Just like Tony Jaa in Ong Bak, the sequels are a case of 'more is more', with the completely OTT 10 minute bone-crunching slogs. I can't even remember the plot (no reference to porn needed here). Not saying the degree of violence needs to be toned down, but sometimes less is more.
Obviously the idea is to cash in quicky, and strike while the iron is hot by upping the ante, but as a martial arts and film lover, why can't the producers spare a thought for us who love high quality and well written extreme violence martial art flicks? :p
