Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Looking For Alaska

    Maybe it's just me, but I really believe Looking For Alaska by John Green should be included on the English course! it's definitely a book I would've loved to have studied, especially when compared with the dreadful books we read in my own class for the exam...

    Is there anyway of suggesting books for the course for future years? Or are the books the same every year?

    There's about 30 texts to choose from every year. Some are repeated year on year. Some disappear for a few years and reappear. You can see the full list of texts on www.education.ie under 'curriculum syllabus and teaching guides'. You can compare 2010 2011 and 2012 to see a pattern

    You have an excellent chance of getting the book on the junior cert course because they can choose any novel. Is it suitable as a junior cert text?

    Ah right! Whether it's suitable for Junior cycle or not really depends on the person... There was some trouble over in the US over a particular scene in the book that some parents of a particular school deemed to be of a pornographic nature, but I think the book was fought for and was kept in the class in question...
