"The mercury is expected to plunge to below freezing"

Something about the use of that term in the media just grates on my senses - like scraping nails off a blackboard. In the summer, it'll be 'the mercury is expected to rise'.

Mercury EXPANDS when warmed and CONTRACTS when cooled. It neither rises or falls. Please populist cheapo media outlets, just say it is going to cool down or warm up - it might give your readers the illusion that you actually know what you are talking about.

Just saw tomorrow's Daily Mail headline on SKY News : "MEGA STORM WILL BE WORSE THAN '87"

Not like the Daily Mail to exaggerate things

Not going to even look because they don't deserve a single hit for the kind of weather tripe that they publish. Absolute rag.

Biggest scaremongering clowns out there along with the express, what happened to their worst winter in 200 years and 3 month long deep freeze, no doubt it will be an apocalyptic hurricane by tomorrow mornings publication.
