2019 T20 World Cup Qualifiers

T20 World Cup Qualifiers

Group A
Scotland
Netherlands
Papua New Guinea
Namibia
Singapore
Kenya
Bermuda

Group B
UAE
Ireland
Oman
Hong Kong
Canada
Jersey
Nigeria

The 14 teams, divided into two groups of seven, play a total of 42 league games. The two group-toppers qualify directly for the T20 World Cup. Teams finishing second and third face off in a couple of playoffs (similar to the IPL Qualifiers). Win the playoff, seal your World Cup spot. That's four spots.

For the last two, the losers from the two playoffs face the fourth-placed teams in the group (like the IPL Eliminator). The winners of those games go through. So, after 42 games, as many as eight of these teams have a shot at qualifying for the World Cup.

The top 10 teams by rankings are automatically into the T20 tournament to be held in Australia next year. They are England, Australia, Pakistan, India, South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Zimbabwe were only recently reinstated back into ICC competitions but it comes too late to enter this one.

Ireland's Group fixtures:
Friday 18th October - Hong Kong vs Ireland - 11:10am (SKY)
Saturday 19th October - UAE vs Ireland - 4:30pm (SKY)
Monday 21st October - Ireland vs Oman - 11:10am
Wednesday 23rd October - Canada vs Ireland - 11:10am (SKY)
Friday 25th October - Ireland vs Jersey - 07:00am
Saturday 26th October - Ireland vs Nigeria - 07:00am (SKY)

Sky Sports are showing quite a few matches in the tournament. Games that are show live are here

Looking forward to it, unusual of Sky not to include our game v Oman in the televised games, likely to be one of the more competitive games in the group

The team rankings in T20i are worth looking at

https://www.icc-cricket.com/rankings...-rankings/t20i

Not a lot between 11-18. Ireland ranked pretty low, although have improved recently. We have had some v poor T20 results in recent years so hopefully can turn this around in the competition. Getting first place in the group would be great and UAE and Oman the main dangers, in fact by ranking UAE would be group favourites and both they and Oman should be used to the playing conditions.

Strangely enough the 13th ranked team Nepal didnt even make the qualifiying competition.

Seems to be just a qualifier to get into another qualifier.
i.e., the teams that get through this will have to come through a preliminary group stage next October before the main stage of the world cup starts.

Thanks for the info.
Yes even if we qualify over the next 2 weeks there are another set of games including SL & BGD. Hoops, hoops and more hoops.
I think after the last month of warm up games the squad can be quietly confident of doing well.

Ya same format as the last two t20 world cups, bit of a joke really. We were awful last time out, losing to Oman and Netherlands. In 2014 we really should have advanced past the first stage, beat Zimbabwe in our first game then comfortably beat UAE. In our last game v netherlands we posted 189/4, not only did they have to get the total they needed it in something like 16overs to advance on NRR, they went nuts with the bat and got 193/4 in 13.5 overs. Our t20 form went downhill dramatically after this as the focus went entirely on securing test status

Playing Hong Kong tomorrow at 11:10 Irish time. Will this be on youtube does anyone know?

We should be beating these fairly handily. Is Tim Murtagh in the squad? Because it's on sky I presume they'll have a speed gun. Be interesting to see what Delany and Adair get up to.

Murtagh not in squad. As it's on sky I doubt there will be. YouTube stream. We did beat HK handily in the recent Oman pentangular so hopefully a similar result
