It's pretty generic but I don't see the warning signs of it being a mess.

It's weird like that. It's been getting written off since it was announced.
For me I'm eager to see what the critics think before making my decision but I'm just staying neutral on it until then.

Have to say I had written this off early on as well as I put it down to looking generic. Now that I'm getting it, been looking into it more and it seems like it should be fun. Not expecting last of us quality but I don't think it will be **** either. It's probably for the best it has widely low expectations.

I've been keeping my expectations pretty low, to the point where I probably won't even play it the first few days it's out as Mortal Kombat 11 is out 3 days before it and I'm much more hyped for it. I don't think Days Gone will have anywhere near the impact of Horizon, God Of War or The Last of Us, but I think it'll ultimately be a pretty solid game and an enjoyable experience.

Not much interest in this but I think its big selling point of zombie hordes has already been neutered by the release of World War Z, it's just not going to have the same impact now.

It's more that there's a lot of red flags going up around it. Tight embargo, awful writing and some very unimpressed impressions from the more reliable previews.

It's all been quite positive recently? Is there a source for the more reliable ones?

Well I doubt it will review badly but I'd expect a lot of 7 and 8's which in the hyperbolic world of videogames is a total disaster to some people.

Metro gamecentral really grilled the developer and even ign and vg247 previews were did raise a few concerns.

As for the writing, he is called Deacon St. John.

I don't see how these can be taken as an unimpressed impression.

"Ultimately, I want to say that Days Gone looks good. I really enjoyed the few hours I spent with it and I’m eager to explore more of its grim, dangerous world. Even though it doesn’t seem to bring anything revolutionary to the table (though the zombie freaker tech I’ve seen in previous demos is impressive), based on what I’ve seen, what it does, it does well. The big question I have is no longer “is Days Gone fun to play?” because the answer there is yes - the real issue, now, is “Is Days Gone fun to play for 30+ hours?” And my answer to that is… hopefully."

"But here’s the thing – I played for four hours straight, and never got bored. If the preview event hadn’t ended, I would have been quite happy to keep going. There’s something here. It’s a clumsy game, but it’s charming and big and increasingly engaging as it goes on. I even started to come around on Deacon a bit the more he was fleshed out. Days Gone might not be another immediate classic, but there’s more to it than I expected."

Polygon have a nice preview on it thinking it would be crap and changing their mind.

    https://www.polygon.com/2019/3/6/18252021/days-gone-ps4-preview-impressions

IGN getting hammered for saying he 'rolled his eyes at another gruff white male protagonist'. Too many white people 3/10.

At least Diesel thinks it will do good, check out their clothing range after partnering with days gone. 50 pounds for a t-shirt, 800 pounds for a leather vest jacket. Seriously who the **** is gonna buy that.

You realise you linked an article that says "In the last few years, the fashion has moved away from overly familiar pissed-off mid-30s white-man protagonists"? How dare you, etc... :pac:

Based on the initial reveals though, I find it hard to disagree. The whole thing just had an awful bang of Fracture to me; the classic X360/PS3 Unreal Engine 3 powered, third person shooter from Day 1 Studios where you played the iconic Jet Brody.

Quite glad to see it's exceeding some people's expectations. It's certainly not particularly prominent on my radar but it'd be nice to get another PS4 title in the library at some point if they can pull it off.

And this is why I blacklist gaming sites that follow this thinking - **** off with your weak woke bull**** and just tell me about the game.

It's funny, I remember you saying the same before Horizon Zero Dawn came out because Aloy and Rost sound like Alloy and Rust, yet most people enjoyed the story and thought the writing was quite good as a whole.

    What's in a name, eh?

Thought the dialogue and writing in that game was pretty poor. It was just doing a bad Josh wheadon.

It wasn't any worse than most videogame writing.

Went to google what IGN said and the auto complete for IGN Days were

    IGN Days Gone
    IGN Days Gone too white
    IGN Days Gone white male
    IGN Days Gone preview
    *
    *
    *
    *
    IGN Days Gone impressions
    IGN Days Gone white man

At this point I don't think the likes of IGN, Polygon, or any of the gaming press matter to sales but at what point do publishers start to think it's not worth the negative noise. Sony already not bother with E3, and doing their own thing. They all seem happier to work with individual streamers and youtubers, it'd used to be a big no no for a publisher to ask who would be reviewing their game but now they get the press by going to an individual and just having a sponsored video.

They are becoming relics using provocative social justice stances to stay relevant. Who wants to listen to that **** when you are trying to find out what game is like? I’m kind of thankful for youtube reviewers in a way because they generally have an interest in the game and speak of its mechanics rather than politics. The likes of Kotaku, Polygon, IGN and Eurogamer can all go and **** themselves when it comes to their reviews carrying any weight, just soapboxes for white knights and virtue signallers who forget the whole point of reviewing - is it fun?

I think it was the eurogamer preview where the guy just started rattling off the story details, I skipped straight into a few minutes later and the dope is still going into great detail about the story in great detail. I went to the comments to find everyone complaining about it. Everyone just wanted to know about the gameplay and exactly as said above, is it fun. The guy seemed to just not give a ****.

A YouTuber reviewer can be good and bad. If the person has a genuine interest in something, it can have the detail a fan would want but they might be biased also. Then you have a dickhead who is only interested in games that will get them likes, comments and subs who are shocked by everything.

I really like ACG and are my go to for any game I'm not sure about in their 'Buy, wait for sale, rent or never touch' series. To the point, what's the game about, good points, bad points, is it fun

Great little interview with the team behind the game for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Free dynamic theme. I think you might need a us psn account but then should work across all accounts.

Yeah you need a US or Canadian PSN for any of those Playstation rewards. Same with last week where you could get Game of Thrones dynamic theme and avatars. Shame they don’t do the 20% off codes like they used to last year for these rewards campaigns like with Far Cry 5 and God of War

I rewatched the E3 video the other day of the mill horde. A guy who has an early copy tried recreating it to see the difference. Definite difference in AI, in E3 the freakers all started in a line following Deacon. In this, they spread out a bit and flank you, definitely more tense.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/DaysGone/comments/bfyhzj/final_clip_for_tonight_tried_recreating_the_e3/

Lots of videos on Reddit but avoided them except for this. General feedback seems to be that people are having a lot of fun but it does have its cons. A few 85/100 being thrown around.

Media embargo ends at 1pm Irish time today so should be lots of videos if you're looking for some proper clips.

That is absolutely not the whole point of reviews.

    I'm excited for it.
I'm in the mood for this type of game too as I've been playing what I class as the sleeper hit of the year in World War Z
