The annual Galway Rapidplay will take place on Saturday 8 June. Full details are available here, but the gist is that it is a seven round tournament played at a rate of 15 minutes plus ten seconds increment per move, in the Bridge Centre, Galway. (A map showing the Bridge Centre's location is here.) You can enter by emailing us at galwaychess [at] gmail [dot] com before Friday 7th June, and then paying the entry fee of €15 on arrival on Saturday morning between 10.15 and 10.45; or if you really insist you can just turn up unannounced before 10.45, but then you'll have to pay €25. Play will start at 11 prompt, and we expect to finish well before 7. Tea, coffee, excellent sandwiches and other goodies will be available to purchase at the venue. See the website link for the list of prizes!

The Galway Rapidplay is just over a week away. Entry numbers are up on this time last year, but there is still room for more of you! For full information about the tournament, see the link in my previous post. Email your entries to galwaychess [at] gmail [dot] com before midday on Friday 7th June, and pay the €15 entry fee between 10 and 10.45 a.m. on the Saturday.

In an exciting finish, the Galway Rapidplay was won jointly by Colm Daly and Tarun Kanyamarala; third equal were Darragh Moran and Trisha Kanyamarala. Other prize-winners were: Rating Prize Band A (1000-1599): David Cormican and Lukasz Daros; Band B (under 1000): David Cunningham, Oscar Roe and Scott Reilly. The Junior Prize, which can be won alongside other prizes, was predictably won by Tarun Kanyamarala; and an additional under-12 Junior Prize was shared by David Cunningham and Oscar Roe.
