Is the cost of this Senior Counsel investigation being borne by Johnny and Mary taxpayer or is it coming out of FG's pockets?

He doesn't need a barrister to make a decision on this, sit her down in his office in Kildare Street (and have Josepha waiting outside the door for follow up questions). Don't like what you hear? Drop-kick her out of the party.

Leo will make tough decisions all by himself. When it :comes to funky socks to wear, or how many reps of a machine in the gym.

For political tough decisions though, he'll hide behind committees and expert commissions and such.

Well over six thousand posts of utter rubbish just to try and get a reaction. Do you not have a life to live or is this some sort of fetish?

Why do people care if he's a contrarian? - the world need contrarians.

Very doubtful. He's getting his advice from highly paid civil servants.

Actually I think the first poster is correct.
Leo knows we live in an age of SPIN .. why else would he create a STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS UNIT (sounds like something the USSR used have)

The Independant certainly doing a good journalistic job on this story, its nice to see journalists following up on a 'REAL' story and providing their readers with a real insight into the workings of our democraticaly elected leaders. Instead of the drivel that passes for journalism these days, where journalists sit behind their keyboards taking news story from the same feeds their readers have access too, and just putting their spin on some topic , telling their readers how and what to think because they consider themselves our betters.
TAOISEACH Leo Varadkar’s controversial Strategic Communications Unit will cost the taxpayer a massive €5m, Independent.ie can reveal.

Mr Varadkar has previously said the first-of-its-kind public relations units in the Taoiseach’s Office would save the taxpayer money.

He has also said the establishment of the unit would be cost neutral.

The Opposition have branded it a "spin" unit and continually called on the Taoiseach to reveal the division's full cost but he has refused to give the details.

However, the Government’s expenditure report for 2018 shows €5m has been budgeted for the unit next year.

The document says the publicity division aims to “streamline communications for citizens” and “deliver major cross-Government communications campaigns”.

Josepha Madigan was probably invoicing her for energy healing therapy to the tune of 60k to ease her catostrophic injuries. That's right, we have a minister who's a practitioner of Reiki mystical hand-healing powers (look it up).

It's quite repulsive. It's the Indo though. One should expect no better. Gutter press at its worst. They should let it rest now until FG makes a statement following the review of the matter, and not just fill a fortnight with fiction, innuendo, and groundless speculation.

Totally agree and I think this applies the world over. We will always need investigative journalists and editors with courage and persistence. It's the only way to keep the politicians somewhat honest.

    here's her radio interview

Have you not read any previous posts on this or actually followed the story?

She took her case to the High Court where she can look for up to €60,000. She rejected an offer from the Hotel owners to pay her medical expenses.
She rejected the offer to have the case dealt with in the District Court which can award compensation up to €15,000.

She claims her medical expenses were €6-7000 so why take it to the higher court, why not just accept the offer from the Hotel owners? Because she was hoping to make money on it and was hoping that no one would question a sitting TD on their claim. She then went on national radio to blame everyone else and accept absolutely no responsibility for her own stupid actions.

She deserves nothing but the nations contempt and hopefully lose her job for her greed and dishonesty.

    That should be Circuit Court.

Would herself and her Fine Gael colleague Alan Farrell have gone through the PIAB process and rejected an offer or is it because the claims were disputed that they ended heading for the courts?

    She refused a PIAB assessment

Agreed but so does the Legal firm who advised her. Both equally culpable.

They tried to bring a case to the Circuit Court for a woman falling off a swing. When by right they should have told her to f*ck off. These sorts of cases waste time and money and put businesses through unnecessary stress and hardship and can and do cost jobs.

Bailey deserves the negative attention but so does her solicitors, even more so.

Oh please quit the virtue signalling.

She was trying to sue a local business for up to 60,000 Euros.
It was a spurious claim. I would even say fraudulent.

    She lied on legal documents.

    She lied on the radio.

Her sense of entitlement has blinded her to right and wrong.

And you think she is the fall gal?

    Please

Theres no question in my head, Somebody knew of the claim and held quiet till election time.

In my opinion, Good enough for her.

    She refused a PIAB assessment

Or, The Dean decided not to allow PIAB adjudicate (which is their right) and wished to fight the claim.

The case was listed in the Circuit Court on the week before the election as far as I can remember so they were only reporting on cases which were due for hearing. I doubt the Circuit Court were influenced by others to list it at a critical time in the political calendar.

They initially offered to pay her medical exps.
Then a silly figure was presented to them.
I can imagine the directors and managers playing back the cctv
and arriving at the decision;"fcuk her, let's play her, we can't buy that publicity,
and if we lose , we're still quids in"

What I find disturbing is Fine Gael haven't dismissed her yet. Plus I heard the end of a radio news report where a fellow politician was saying he felt sorry for her. Anyone else here that and get his name? Prob another Fine Gael party member?

We live in a country where just this week a councillor who was caught on video saying he wanted loads of money, got re-elected, and an absolute nobody called Maria Walsh who’s only moment in the public eye was being in the rose of Tralee also got elected. To the EU Parliament.

We are away with the fvckin faries in this country.

So it follows that this complete sham of a woman will walk away scott free from her attempted fraud. And she’ll not be fired or held to account and will be re-elected

    It’s so depressing.

To be honest if you listen back to the interview with Sean o Rourke there was one single line where she left it all slip.

    I was mortified.

That's what it all came down to. She went off on a bitter revenge streak over her own self inflicted humiliation.

How anyone can have sympathy for her or try to justify it at all is really beyond me.

I don't think we'll ever change. The funny thing is you hear people laugh at the yanks for voting in Trump as President and yet look at the absolute state of our political class.

I’ve had that very thought many many many times. Easy to laugh at the Healy Raes but then you go down there and realise, they employ a fvck ton of people in their various businesses, they’re landlords to a huge amount of people albeit unofficially wink wink, and somehow they get sh!t done for the locals.

In effect, he an effective local politician, you get to the country spout whatever nonsense you like from your platform.

The Dean Hotel has said it is satisfied with the outcome of the case, and reassured customers today that the swing in the hotel will not be removed.
Looks like the infamous swing could become quite an attraction :)

To my shame I don’t remember his name but he’s the one that was caught on secret video that ended up being shown on tv

    Is he FG?

    What does that tell you

I’ve no issue with someone sitting on something like this and using it for political gain, because,
    A. FG would do the same.
    B. It happened it’s not made up.
