This is huge news. The majority of football fans will be delighted to see the Premier League back including myself.

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/52833725

The Premier League is set to restart on 17 June with Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal, subject to government approval.

A full round of fixtures would then be played on the weekend of 19-21 June.

All matches will take place behind closed doors and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, BT Sport, BBC Sport or Amazon Prime.

BBC Sport will air four live matches for the first time since the Premier League's inception in 1992.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports will show 64 matches live and make 25 available free to air.

Sky saying that 25 of its games will be free to air. The ‘Pick’ channel might be used. Cant see them being FTA on satellite though for rights reasons. Probably show them on Freeview as a consequence of this.

Sky free to air may just mean Sky One.

I presume we won't get Amazon Prime games in Ireland.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,659 ✭✭✭Delta2113

Actually your correct it's going to be Pick.

In December Amazon Prime games were shown on Premier Sports here. Don't know if that arrangement will re-occur again.

Surely if you tune in pick in other channels or you have a generic fta box you will have the games in glorious SD. Was there rights issues before with pick on satellite?

    It’s pick on freeview

Premier Sports have the rights to 3pm KOs and the Amazon games, in normal times. This isn’t normal though as all games are going to be broadcast in the U.K. and there’s only going to be one 3pm KO each Saturday. There will be additional midweek rounds that won’t have been originally. We’ll have to wait to see how this all translates to Ireland. We will definitely get the games that would originally have been on Sky and BT (and if games are shown FTA on Pick and BBC One there’s no way to stop them going out in Ireland).

Hopefully there won't be an issue with Pick. There is an Irish version on Sky with Irish adverts so fingers crossed Sky don't block PL games here as Virgin Media customers would lose out

According to to the RXTV Log site its says Pick on freeview channel 11, would they broadcast different programmes on Freeview and satellite.

Problem is Pick is SD and not HD.

Amazon Prime will stream the four Premier League games it has the rights to free of charge when football returns.

It means no membership will be required in order to watch the matches via the website.

The news means there will be a total of 33 matches on free-to-air TV, including four to be shown on the BBC and 25 on Pick TV.

Amazon made history earlier this season by streaming a number of games for the first time, including Manchester United v Tottenham.

Just to update on Pick TV. As mentioned above there is a uk and an irish version

The Uk version can be manually added to the skybox in other channels

    12070 H 27500 5/6 DVB-S QPSK

Fingers x the games are on Pick Tv on satellite and not just Freeview.

There is a leaked fixture list for the remainder of June doing the rounds which shows the one Saturday 3pm (in the 20th) game being on BT Sport. The following Sat 27th is FA Cup QF weekend with no Sat 3pm KO.

It’ll be interesting to see how this all translates to Ireland. In principle we are only entitled to the games that would originally have been aired but how do you distinguish in this situation? My guess is that all Sky and BT games will go out in Ireland and that Premier Sports will get the Amazon and BBC games in compensation for not having the 3pms but this is only a guess.

Details have begun to emerge of the first Premier League games due to be shown on free-to-air television.

The BBC's first ever live Premier League game is due to be Bournemouth v Crystal Palace on Saturday 20th June, 19:45.

On Sunday 21st June, Sky is planning to show Everton v Liverpool (19:00) on Sky Sports and Freeview channel Pick (channel 11), currently due to be the first of 25 matches to be screened by Sky on Freeview.

The BBC's second live Premier League match is due to be Norwich v Everton on Wednesday 24th June (18:00). After that, the BBC will still have two further free-to-air matches to show, that are yet to be announced. Amazon will stream Crystal Palace v Burnley for free on 29th June at 20:00.

Irish Examiner reporting tonight games on Pick to be shown on Sky One in Ireland. Seems an odd one.

Will the Premier League games shown on Pick in the UK get picked up by Premier Sports here?

I would assume they'll still be on Pick, it is a Sky operated channel and is broadcast here.

Will the Premier League games shown on Pick in the UK get picked up by Premier Sports here?

Sky Sports will show 64 games: that's the 39 they would already have had and an additional 25.
The 25 additional games will also be shown free on Pick Channel (Pick Channel is free to air on Satellite no subscription required)
Sky Sports Subscribers will be able to also watch those additional 25 games on Sky Sports as usual and better quality in HD
Note the Pick Channel is SD

BT Sport will show 20 matches (They not announced if any of these will be free to air)

Amazon Prime has four matches (Free to watch no prime subscription required)

The BBC also has four matches. (Free to Watch)

Thats all 92 remaining games covered
    Sky Sports (64)/BT Sports (20)/Amazon (4)/BBC (4) Total 92 Games
Sky Sports has 25 games that will be broadcast on both Sky Sports and Pick Channel with free to watch on Pick Channel)

If Premier Sports going to have any games it might be the 4 games that will be on Amazon but as these will be free to watch they might not be on Premier Sports

How will it work if the games on the last day of the season are all on at the same time or are these being staggered also?

The Amazon games won't be shown on the Irish version of Prime Video the same way they weren't in December.

I imagine Premier Sports will show everything that they can. What games are free in the UK won't be a concern for them.

It's already been reported you wont need a Amazon prime account to watch the games

It's not like the previous situation when Amazon had Premier league games in December 2019 that you needed to have Amazon UK prime subscription

Amazon Prime will make Premier League games free to air
    That's all 4 games

    http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/52904364

Premier Sports will likely show the 4 games also as they have the Rep of Ireland rights

Likely does not mean definite :D
It's unknown for sure until Premier Sports announce if they showing the games

What is known for sure Amazon will be showing the games free to air with no need for a amazon prime subscription

It's possible amazon could geo block the games to UK only but that won't be known until someone tries to watch the games
