    Hi,

    As a new user here and at woodworking, I'm trying to get recommendations for what timber people would use for a project of a indoor dog crate? Trying to gauge costs and to have a go myself if I can borrow some tools.

    As a new user I can't post a pic so I'm afraid you will have to put the url together of my very rough mock up:

    https: + //ibb.co/zbFmLyw (UPDATED IMAGE)

    Here's the spec I had in mind:

    Width:55cm Length:105cm Height:85cm

    50/50 Sliding door - Opening on left (already have this hardware)

    Solid back and floor (MDF or ply, what thickness?)

    Full length wooden slotted sides L+R (Jigsawed out of mdf?)

    Full length bars front RH side (polished copper - Thanks @timfromtang)

    Door & Top to match wooden floor colur/style (Stained Pine glued together? Engineered hardwood flooring etc)

    Any thoughts feedback would be appreciated!

    what size/breed is the beast?
    Does it have teeth?
    why not a full metal cage, pre-made and use you woodworking skills elsewhere

    Hmmm,

    looks like a jail cell,,,,,

    use 15mm copper pipe for the uprights? polish em an make em shiny?

    Use plywood (good quality) for the wide panels, base back etc.
    Since its indoors and likely to be painted ordinary construction lumber is easy to work to make the frame etc,

    Cheers for the replies

    @Calahonda52
    It's for a greyhound, so tall but not bulky. I'm trying to save space by having the crate blend into the furniture vs the shop crates taking up extra room. Don't have a lot of room to spare! I did consider getting a shop bought crate and making it look 'less crate-y' somehow too. Maybe framing that. The main feature is the sliding door Vs hinges, again to save room.

    @timfromtang
    Yea I'm trying to avoid the jail cell look.
    Both sides would be lats (in mock up the RH side has bars too which is wrong) and only 50% of the front bars that I was thinking sprayed brown...but polished copper pipes is a great call!

    Updated very rough mock up
