Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Looking for a reference before lease is up.

    Hey just wondering is it ok to look for a place to rent and ask for a reference off the current landlord
    1 month before the current lease is up.

    Of course, on the assumption you have informed the landlord/agent you are leaving at the end of the fixed term. Otherwise they might assume you are continuing under part IV and you may then end up having to give appropriate notice.

    Haven't informed the landlord yet.

    There's nothing wrong with asking for a reference before the end of the tenancy. It might be an idea to let the landlord know in advance that your planning to leave. A blindsided landlord may not provide the best reference.

    Off Topic but check your notice periods.

    Ending your existing tenancy is not automatic. Statutory minimum notice periods may be longer than those in a rental contract/lease/verbal agreement
