Welcome to the Boards GAA forum. Boards' place to talk about anything GAA related. Discussion about football (men and ladies), hurling, camogie, handball is all welcome. While a bit of craic is obviously encouraged, we do like to maintain a certain standard of discussion so there are a number of rules to be adhered to when posting.
A good place to start would be the Boards Posting Guidelines. This lists the site wide guidelines posters should adhere to when using Boards.
If a moderator takes action on one of your posts and you feel that it's a mistake, then please PM us. We do make mistakes and we are happy to reverse sanctions when this happens.

GAA forum specific rules are below.

    1. Abuse: Plain and simple - no personal abuse against posters, players or managers. The reason for the "no player/manager abuse" rule is simply because all it serves to do is wind up supporters of said player's/manager's team. You can criticize a someone's behaviour all you want without resorting to abuse. Use of terms like "thug", "scum(bag)", rat, etc. will likely lead to a card or ban. This list is not exhaustive. Any other similar terms will also likely result in a warning/ban. The ban on personal abuse of posters is self-explanatory. Attack the post, not the poster.

    2. Trolling: Making posts with the sole intention of winding other posters up is a big no-no. You will likely be warned/infracted if we feel you are trolling. You can then alter your posting style or risk being banned if you continue in the same vein.

    3. Backseat moderation: If you see a post that you feel breaks the rules, report the post by clicking the "Flag" icon at the bottom of the post and choosing "Report". You can then put in a brief reason for reporting the post and every mod in the forum will be notified.
At busy times, there can be well over a thousand posts in a day which means it's impossible for moderators to catch every offending post so we rely on reported posts. For any trolling/abuse, report the post and do not react in a similar way as that will more than likely result in a card for you. Calling posters trolls on thread is also considered backseat modding.

    4. County threads: There are a number of threads (links in post below) dedicated to discussion of GAA matters in the relevant county (be it club or county football/hurling/camogie). While fans of other counties are more than welcome to constructively post/debate in other counties' threads, it is generally aimed at supporters of said county to discuss GAA matters relating to their home county. Therefore, the rules on trolling are a lot tighter. What may be considered banter in the general forum can be considered trolling if you do so on a county's discussion thread.
However, posting on a county thread does not give you the right to abuse players/managers from other counties.

    5. Thread Bans: If we feel a single poster is causing a thread to be constantly derailed (usually one of the county threads) but not necessarily breaking the site rules, we can request that they do not post on the thread in question again. This does not show up on your profile, however if you ignore this request, you will be banned.

    6. Spamming/fundraising: Clubs and charities all over the country are constantly fundraising. If we allowed ads to this effect, we would be overrun with them. As a result, no fundraising ads are allowed to be posted on the forum. This includes fundraising draws for All Ireland Final tickets. In fact, these sorts of posts are site bannable offences.

    7. Arguing with moderation: As stated above, if you disagree with a decision made by a moderator, PM the moderator in question. Do not argue on thread. If you are disputing a card/ban, there is a Dispute Resolution Forum here where you can argue your case to a CMod and an admin if needed. Please ensure you attempt to resolve the issue with the moderator first before creating a thread on this forum (as per the flow chart).

    8. Thread spoiling: Don't like a thread? No problem. No one is forcing you to post in it. If you don't like the content of a thread but take the effort of posting in it to express your dislike, that's thread spoiling and not allowed. Keep off a thread if you don't want to debate the topic.

    9. Illegal streams: These ain't allowed to be requested or linked to on Boards.

    10. These rules are not exhaustive and moderators can and do use their discretion when moderating threads. For more general Boards guidelines, please see here

    Update 22 January 2020
    11. Do not post and/or discuss unsubstantiated personal rumours about players/managers/officials/pundits etc. on any thread. This is a GAA forum, not a gossip forum.

    12 Updated Totting Up

The sanctioning system as outlined will come into use on 01/01/24

    3 Points in a calendar Year = 48hr ban

4 Points = week long ban

    5 Points = 2 weeks

    6 Points = 3 weeks

    7 Points = 1 month

    8 Points = 2 months

    9 Points = 3 months

    10 Points = 6 months.

A 1 Point Warning is automatically applied if a poster quotes/replies to a moderator instruction.

A 1 Point Warning is automatically applied if a poster posts in a thread they are Threadbanned from.

For the purpose of Totting up, Warnings are reset at the end of the calendar year but any ban being served at that time will continue to run it's due course.
