We only got 12 responses so far and out of that, maybe only half were something we'd consider running with. If I run more than one at a time then I'm done by January :)

Can we know what type of subjects were submitted? For curiousity like.

I'm loving this forum more each time I come back- well done guys. It takes a lot to answer Qs. Also, given the time of year you'll get peaks/troughs in terms of questions asked etc as this forum gets more and more viewing figures, you'll probably have to limit the threads to a few days as the person in the chair won't have time to answer them all.

Is there confirmation (email/PM) when submitting the form? I filled it in and I think submitted though I may have closed the tab before clicking. Cheers!

There is a confirmation page once you have completed and submitted the form. There is no application with your username enda1 at the moment I'm afraid but please do fill it in again when you have time.

Cheers Niamh. Not sure if what I have to say could be interesting to others - but I'll let ye decide.

I see on AH that another "Traveller thread" has just bitten the dust. It disappeared in its usual pffft of self righteaous, holier than thou claptrap.

There must be "Travellers", or people closely connected who are also Boardsie's.

I wonder if we're ready for that?

I also wonder could someone do for the Travelling community what Omackeral did for prisons? No small ask.

IIRC, one brave soul stuck his head above the parapet and answered questions on an AH some years ago. The tone of many posters improved dramatically. Amazing the effect speaking 'to' somebody has, rather than 'about' somebody! ;)
The thread was still closed, and probably rightly so, but it was interesting seeing stereotypes challenged.

That would be an interesting one all right.

Sounds like a good idea, I'll see who I can reach out to.

  • Get an Irish Astrophysicist on. If the Q+A sessions at the ends of talks from people like Neil Tyson - Brian Cox - Laurence Krauss and so on are anything to go by - people usually have MANY questions for them.

The head of the Irish Astronomy Club does lots of talks and interviews - perhaps he would do it - or have contact details for an actual astrophysicist who would.

Could we get someone from the Army to do the AMA for us? Preferably someone who has served in a tour abroad. Would be very interesting I think and I'm sure there would be plenty of questions to be asked.

That person doesn't have to be Irish, he/she could be a foreign based soldier i.e. Royal Army or US Corps etc.

Wasn't that proven to be a troll? Perhaps I'm thinking of another thread.

So any plans for the New Year to get this forum going fluently? People should list what type of people they'd like to hear from and then maybe we can all go headhunting. People I'd like to hear from...

    A Taxi Driver

    A Dublin Bus/Bus Eireann Driver

    A League of Ireland Player

    A School Teacher

I reckon I could get a bus driver to do one if there was interest.

Back from the Winter Festival break, we'll be kicking off again tomorrow with a new AMA for the new year.

    Hi Dav

Love the idea for an AMA forum, I think it can work well.

I did message a while back to do one myself, and while I understand accept you guys may not want to do it, it would be handy if there was a decline message sent out, even a bog standard one.

    +1 on this.

It would be very helpful if you could give an idea of what the parameters are, maybe with a list of examples.

"For the record things which we definitely would not run with would be for example X, Y and Z because of these reasons, 1, 2 and 3 because of these reasons, and A, B and C because of these reasons".

People are taking the time to apply, and are also handing over their real non boards identity and their personal contact details (which I'm sure would be handled with the utmost privacy etc, but still), and going through the effort of the verification dealy, it'd be nice if people knew before hand that there was no point in them applying to do one.

I can't really give a set of parameters beyond "do you think it'd be interesting?" With the greatest of respect to Business Cat for example, I wasn't expecting the great response we have to his that's running at the moment, so what do I know? :)

I've been lax in getting back to people and for that I apologise, I'm going through the list now and will make sure everyone gets a response and a potential start date (or a "no thanks, we don't think that'll work").

So for instance, like someone was suggesting, a convicted murderer, or maybe more likely say a porn star or a heroin addict or something like that would be in consideration, if it was felt it would be interesting? I suppose what I'm wondering is are there things that would be felt to be inappropriate, or not pg-13 enough, or too potentially inflammatory, that would be ruled out despite the fact they would probably be incredibly interesting?

(I'm not a heroin addicted convicted murderer turned porn star inquiring on behalf of myself, just to say, just curious. )

I know it will never happen but I'd love an AMA with one of the consistent Boards reregs, just to try and figure out what the hell they get out of it.

Maybe Dr Tony Scott, atmospheric physicist, co-founder of the Young Scientist Award and I think developed the smoke alarm?

    Hey;

Im probably being a bit nosy but is this to do with your parents?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I wanted to add that we've had a couple of soldiers get in touch to offer their time, but there are issues of clearance and operational security to consider, coupled with the fact that it's not a very big army in Ireland, and there are a lot of smart people there, so working out identities and so on may not be difficult. I'm going to contact the Army press office and see if they can offer some time officially. I might just do the same with the Gardaí cause I'd love to see an AMA with a Garda of some description.

Would an official one be as good?

    Hey Joey,

I suppose it would be yes, without going into the precise topic I'd be speaking about.

How can people verify themselves where they have achieved something? Like if someone travelled around Ireland with no money or something. AMAs with peoples professions is a bit boring. Reason it works on Reddit is because they have famous people as well.

    I don't see why it wouldn't be.

If you get the right level, I'm sure they'll answer questions as candidly as they can.

Proof is in the pudding of course :)
