    Hi folks

Any advice or strong opinions good or bad on Gorey as an area to raise a family and commute maybe one or two days a week to Dublin 2?

Just trying to get a feel of North Wexford / South Wicklow commutable (by public transport) areas near enough to the coast.

    Thanks a mill
    Nalz

Gorey is a good spot and constantly growing. It's very safe and you have a few amenities, in beaches, woodlands, cinema, plenty of gyms and clubs and the park is being renovated at the moment

A lot of what's said here is still pretty valid, https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=97028414

If you are going to Dublin 2 you might also want to look at Bus Eireann (no 2) and Wexford bus as they are more frequent and may be quicker.

    Best of luck

Yeah, Gorey is a good spot, and while I wouldn't fancy commuting to Dublin from there five days a week, just once or twice a week is perfectly do-able.

Definitely look at buses rather than trains - service is more frequent, and while not necessarily quicker, they don't take any longer either (give or take a few minutes). Would recommend Wexford Bus rather than Bus Eireann, as if you book in advance online, you're guaranteed a seat no matter how many people turn up to the bus stop.

Only thing is, you're tied to the return journey you choose - for example, if you pick a 5 p.m. departure from Dublin, and are then held up at work so that you miss it by a few minutes, you're not then guaranteed a seat on the next one instead. I've seen them leave people behind at bus stops if they haven't reserved a seat, even if there are still empty seats on the bus, because those empty seats have been reserved by people getting on at other stops further along the way.

Also, if you don't mind an extra 15 or 20 minutes on the bus each way, and if you'd consider countryside living rather than in Gorey town, have a look around Camolin and Ferns areas too. If you're considering buying a house, there's a lot more bang for your buck once you get a few miles outside of Gorey.

    Good luck with it anyway.
