Remember in the last Recession, Seanie Fitzpatrick of Anglo Irish Bank was the Pantomime villain who everyone hated, whenever there was tax increases, or newly created taxes like the €100 household charge or €200 second home tax and social welfare cuts, Sean Fitzs name would come up in every water cooler discussion. I think in the coming years Tony Holohan will be the new Seanie Fitz

I didn't agree with a lot of what Holohan was saying but there is no comparison between him and that little bollix Seanie Fitz.

    That's some comparison!
Seanie Fitz has been fined and censured for his behaviour in relation to loans between Anglo and INBS. He is dispised for a whole lot more, and IMHO, deservedly so.

On the other hand, Tony Holohan is a respected public health official who has worked very hard to safeguard the lives of Irish people.

But maybe you have information that will paint him as a villain?

Google Tony Holohan and Cervical Smear and see all the evidence you need!

Sean is much better tailored & groomed. That's why people remember him.

There is going to be an awful lot of tears in time to come because of people dying due to delayed Cancer Diagnosis, as a result of the stupid policy to suspend all screening programs.

    Examples?
I googled and discovered nothing other than he advised the minister of health to let him do a review first before an independent review on the smear tests
    Thats normal procedure
The minister decided the review should be independent
Said review found no evidence of cover ups

    Google is great for evidence.

    ah ffs,

He helped lead the country through an incredibly difficult and dangerous time. He devoted his time to best practice to keep Ireland safe, all while suffering horrific personal circumstances.

    Fcuk Putin. Glory to Ukraine!

He knew of the cervical test problem in 2016 but didn't seem too pushed to come on the national airwaves and tell us. He also tried to silence Lorriane Walsh, a patient advocate on the CervicalCheck Steering Group

Tony Holohan has proven himself a better man this his detractors.

Shame on anyone for questioning his integrity or dedication.

By working “hard to safeguard the lives of Irish people” do you mean trying to block an enquiry into the cervical cancer scandal? Or refusing hospital treatment for the most vulnerable in our society in the middle of a pandemic?? What a fcuking hero!

Given the man's current sad circumstances could we leave this to a later date?

We could do with a law which identifies publicly those persons responsible for truly stupid utterances online.

There's this substrata of society who endlessly complain, moan, and abuse politicians, public reps, and those in the public eye from the safety of their own home. They hold these people to extraordinary standards, allow for nothing only their own view of what is correct, and do nothing only fire out bile all day.

The funny thing is you get the impression that these same people would have absolutely no skills in solving complex and nuanced issues; the bravery to stand up in front of the public and be held accountable; or the work ethic to do anything only complain on the internet.

It's too early to be giving him the freedom of the city or other awards that people might be planning. Dust needs to settle on all this.

    Mod

What a ridiculous thread to make and highly disrespectful as well given what he has done for this country, anymore threads like and cards or bans will be handed out.
