Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Multi level marketing to a school class

    Would appreciate any advice.

    My daughter age 10 (4th class) came home today and said her class had had a session from one of the mothers, selling essential oils. She said the woman said the oils are good for you, make you healthy and gave the kids a website they should go to where they can buy them. I checked online and this woman is a rep for one of the multi level marketing (MLM) companies selling essential oils.

    I'm a bit gobsmacked to be honest. Surely this is against the law somehow to market products to children during school time?

    I'm a bit sensitive about MLM health products in particular as I had a child with cancer a few years ago and on three separate occasions people involved in these MLM companies tried to befriend me purely to sell various health supplements/oils etc for him. One even told me that her product would suffice instead of chemo!

    I'm pretty upset & planning to complain but I just wanted to know if anyone had had any experience of anything like this.

    That sounds very strange. Have never heard of something like this in primary(and I've been around a while!)

    Make an appointment with the principal and make your compliant and views known. The teacher in question probably thought she was doing a friend a favour and there was no harm.

    Absolutely unacceptable. I'd be making a complaint to the teacher as well as a letter outlining your complaint to the principal and chairperson of the BOM.
