Just finished the full MCTIP:EA \ SA course, the exams arent that difficult if you have been using WS2008 for a while, you do need to have covered all of the new 2008 features.

There's a surprising lack of *nix certified people in this thread.

    All I have is:
    National cert in Software Development
    A+
    Network+
    Linux+
    70-270 MCP (XP)
    70-290 MCP (XP)

and I'm in the middle of my B. Sc in IT/IS.

dont waste your time on security + try 70-299 instead cheaper and prometric are giving a second chance free on mcps until june....

    last count i had 22.... mostly older nt4 ****...

    www.prometric.com about £88.00

try the CEH its similar and probably of more use have covered the career acadamy ceh course as well as cbtnuggets working on the pen testing stuff at the momemt.

Well done for having 22 MCP on mostly NT4, you must be the most certified individual on NT4 exams in the world.
The Security+ and 70-299 and even none of the Microsoft "security" exam, including Forefront, can be in any way compared. The security+ covers in a general way all aspects of security, including C.I.A. etc, we are far to have this in any Microsoft security exams, which are mostly covering specific security product/feature of the MS product range. Certificates, IPCSEC, Security Templates, Proxy/AV/Firewall are what is being covered in MS exams, not much to do with Security+

Security+ is a very good beginning for those who want to acquire a broad knowledge about security generally speaking. That's all it is. The MS exams or Cisco etc...are the next step for somebody who want to specialize in a specific set of technologies.

Now regarding your comment about CEH, this certification is crap. There is much more better and well more recognized, such as Mile2.
CEH training is very poor, training material being very much outdated.

how did you fint the comptia linux test?

Ridiculously easy actually. Hadn't used Linux much by the time I sat the test. Just printed out the objectives, got myself a Linux Bible book and learned for the week before the test.

I take it your talking about the pen testing... looking at it at the momemt.

    as for the Microsoft comment...

Its a pity that the WPF exam isnt used towards either the Windows or Enterprise Developer certifications.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 52 ✭✭HumanAfterAll

Yes, I can't understand it because WPF is the future more than WinForms :(

I hope that in the future, when Silverlight be finished... another MCPD certification appears for WPF :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,931 ✭✭✭Ginger

This should nearly be in a new thread but it comes down to a lot of windows forms being deployed on servers dont require WPF.. It has been debated a lot on Gerry O 'Briens blog.

Okay - by no means an "expert" -

    MCP
    MCTS
    MCSA 2K3

    Completed 70-293 (MCSE on hold)

Haven't certified CCNA because I'm too lazy!

Spending 8 hours per night on CCIE R&S
Labbing 15 hours on weekends - still feel like I'll never get there.

    Watch this space :D
