Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Crimecall - Crap CCTV

    Nowadays one must use registered installers for home security systems . But are these registered installers allowed install poor visibility CCTV?

    Of all the footage tonight on Crimecall only Applegreen had clear CCTV. even the banks are behind the times .

    Supermarket footage where you can't even see a persons face at all is useless.

    Is it the registered installers chose the system or the business ?

    That's old gear that hasn't been upgraded yet. The footage from Applegreen was good and it would be about on par to what we install as standard. Remember though, even with really high end gear if there's poor lighting then the camera will struggle to produce a good image.

    It's not up to installer to call the customer and tell them to upgrade there cameras,that's something the customer needs to decide apon (we can only advise),those cameras could have been there years before better spec cameras became around or even affordable.I was watching it last night too the apple green had a great picture(looked like HD-TVI or AHD )but as mentioned above there is only so much a camera can do with harsh lighting conditions

    Looked IP system, going by the motion blur of the footage.

    You can still get an analog system installed if that suits your budget, for the extra money Id advise a HD system.

    Once the cameras have a CE mark that is all the certification body will look for.

    Look the bottom line is this, the Gardai know most of the scum in this country that commit such offences as often seen on crime call.
    When they put up rubbish CCTV images is because they cannot identify the offenders from the footage and they hope that one the offenders ex associates, or an ex girl friend will rat on them.
    When the good stuff is put up, just like Applegreen then they do not know who they are dealing with.

    A good assessment.
    I remember an incident on TVs caught on camera where they were in the Net watch Control Room. It must have been a quiet night as they jumped into action booming down the speakers at some potential intruders it was very obvious the footage was playback & not live.

    The one time I had to go to the station to view footage from CCTV , after someone had robbed the cars number plates and bought petrol in local Tesco.
    The footage was brutal and it was impossible to make out the faces .
