Ireland finished 8th in the 2019 world championship after injuries caught up on the squad where expectations were high after a grand slam in the 6 nations. Pool stage results set us up for 5th to 8th playoff where losses to England and new Zealand meant 8th place.
2020 world championship will be played Italy for the 3rd time in the 13 under 20 tournaments played since then change from under 19/21 to just an under 20 tournament.

The groups for next yours tournament, based on this years results are as follows:
    France, Wales, New Zealand, Japan
    Australia, England, Ireland, Fiji
    South Africa, Argentina, Italy, Georgia

Players eligible for 2020 to already play for the 20s include Thomas Ahearn,Thomas Clarkson, Brian Deeny, David McCann, John McKee, Charlie Ward, Ciaran Booth

Leinster and Ulster development sides playing Friday in Malone. Should hopefully be quite a few 20s prospects involved in this

  • Registered Users Posts: 606 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

I think they should have the teams for the Premier 1 qualifiers by the end of this week.

Wait to see on results etc to see who has who and what league they want to go in.

This has died a death a little, I see the Irish 20s had first get together.

Any ideas on who is involved?

I see they've completely abandoned Athlone as a venue again for the next 6 nations, home games are down in Cork again. when it the U20's were unfashionable it was fine to have it in Athlone and now with the extra publicity and fame for the u20's it's gone to Cork. just having a rant as I've just discovered there's no Connacht home game over Christmas either, it's a conspiracy I tell you all

been quite few years since athlone used. Moved to donnybrook for few years shame as was good to get spread of internationals round at least with it cork it's not Dublin.
Connacht have a game at home before Christmas but not the two between xmas and new years

Pitch was often a mess. think that prompted the move to the 4G in donnybrook and now the 4G in Cork. Be great to see it back out West if Connacht get the 4G into the sportsground.

Soroka came off injured for the Trinity 20s against Tarf a few weeks back.

Dunno what timescale he was given but he did walk off with help.

there will be nothing until day or two before game and sometimes these games will not have any coverage online.

Munster usually post a quick highlight video of their game against the u20's, but I don't think Leinster do.

yeah I know. Was at work earlier didnt have time to expand on that. Munster generally will have match report, team news beforehand. Leinster wont.

I would have thought Galway is well served for Rugby compared to Cork.

11 Pro 14 games and 3 European games. While Cork only gets 4 Pro 14 games.

Ideally a game in connacht, Munster, ulster while the 6 nations is in dublin already.

Wish we could host the u20 rwc. We could use Cork and Galway. It would be great to bring a great competition to Ireland.
I like the venue in Cork. Athlone, the pitch was a mess and Dublin already gets the seniors.

Be interesting to see how izuchukwu gets on in the row, played for roscrea seniors two years ago at 13, presumably the 7s development as a forward will be critical

Quite a few under 20s playing for Munster obviously with a few not from province on the bench such as Ben Murphy

O Doherty at scrum half is a real good player. Big guy for a 9. Played quite a bit at 10 or 12 for his club at age grade. Eoin O Connor is a real good second row and would be interesting if he and ahearn form an all Waterford partnership for Ireland at any stage this year
