Inspiriert durch das BR-Fernsehen

im "Favourite Places in Germany" würde mich mal interessieren, wie viele von Euch hier regelmäßig deutsches Fernsehen (i.d.R. über Satellit) schauen.
Für mich war anders herum englischsprachiges Radio und TV beim Erlernen dieser Sprache sehr hilfreich.

So, who is watching german television on a regular basis here in Ireland?

I've been wondering this too. Is there any way besides satellite to watch german TV? We are moving to Ireland from Germany soon and I would like to maintain my childrens' German. I know that there aren't lots and lots of shows available on the Internet...At least from what I have found.

Not really ...especially not kiddies' programmes.
But you can get a whole satellite system (dish and receiver) for under 100 Euro every now and then in Lidl (for example). Just make sure you get the one with the 80 cm dish (the usual 60 cm is too small for good reception) and you can watch all your familiar programmes even in the wesht of Ireland.

Thanks, we will watch for that. May have to have two systems, one for Irish/English TV and one for German.

Not necessary. You can receive both respective satellites on one dish. Make sure it's not a Lidl dish since they are very light and bracket is pure junk.
Their receivers are ok, though. And if it's not Sky you're after you could use one receiver for both sats, for english and german channels.

I'm renting, so I can't get a satellite dish

I do miss the Deutsche Welle channel on Sky.

How about video podcasts or DVDs of the kids' TV shows to keep them going until you get the TV part sorted?

kann man es online anschauen? gibt es so etwas wie RTE player bei ZDF und PRO7?

Der Taff Link funzt aber nicht hier in Irland, obwohl es eine Eigenproduktion ist.

Hier habe ich mal eben NDR und BR getestet, funktioniert beides einwandfrei auf jeweils LiveTV1 oder 2. Auch c't (Computermagazin) Magazin läuft, Kinderkanal nur mit deutschem Proxy server.
ZDF lief darüber nicht, aber das schaue ich online bei emule tv, ist aber auch da das einzige deutsche Vollprogramm was läuft.

Man muß sich online also viel zusammensuchen.

Agree on buying the receiver in germany, tuning it in beyond is not necessary though, 'cause all receivers there are already preset to Astra1 19°e german channels.
Btw Most sat boxes from Lidl and Aldi Ireland are also preset to Astra1 causing some confusion amongst beginners with first time setup.

The girlfriend is german so we have a satellite setup for the german channels so she can watch her "Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten" and "Alles was zählt". I watch a bit of it myself but they are fairly cheesy shows. We have all the channels including Premiere etc but we only use ZDF, RTL and RTL2 mostly.

Why is that? Is your landlord not interested in TV? Maybe it is for the hous's beauty reasons. Or does it really mean "renting = no satellite" ?

Yes, it is basically for cosmetic reasons. They'd have to drill a couple of holes at the front and that's not something landlords will easily agree to. Next door have one, but they own their flat. Nobody else in my apartment complex have sat dishes.

The only exception I've had to the rental/satellite situation, was the time I rented a room from a owner-occupier who already had Sky installed in the house.
My sister's landlady OK'd her getting a Sky dish, but she soon got complaints from the neighbours about it 'cheapening the look of the apartment complex' (her apartment isn't even visible from the road).

But: Yes the owner decides - and possibly the local policies. But in the end allowing a satellite dish can be a positive option when it comes to renting a house. I once wanted to rent a place and was not allowed to put up a dish in the rear garden. So I went for something else.

I have no idea why landlords are so very much against dishes. It saves costs. And when it is installed properly some neighbors can share a single dish. So the street view will not be like this:

they have a live stream and recorded programmes available.

whether its blocked outside of germany i couldnt tell ya!!

It works in Switzerland, not sure about outside, but has a good enough range of German, French and Italian channels. Also good for watching BBC1 and ITV1 whilst abroad.

Edit: Actually, according to this it doesn't work in Ireland.

Habe ausgezeichnete Erfahrungen damit gemacht, sowohl in Irland, Deutschland wie auch in Kanada.

Aber

Die einzige Vorbedingung mit beiden Lösungen ist dass das Uploadgeschwindigkeit am Quellort ziemlich gut sein muss, was aber kein Problem in deutsche Grossstädte sein sollte.

Also ich habe damals einfach meine deutsche Schüssel mit rüber gebracht und kann weiterhin GZSZ usw. gucken... Mal davon abgesehen das es umsonst ist...

Habe bisher keine Probleme damit gehabt. Im gegenteil... In deutschland hatte ich nicht so nen guten Empfang

ich schaue da doch schon mal gerne rein. Gibt es aber in Irland eben doch nur per Satellit und die Vermieter haben sich da sehr eng. In Dublin ist es kaum irgendwo möglich, eine Antenne aufzubauen.

I have 2 LNBs on a bracket to my dish...one to 19.2e (german) and 1 to 28.2 (freesat), and use the VU+ duo receiver which has 2 tuners...1 for each satellite. Plenty of free TV

When I was renting, I told my landlord I would pay for dish installation, and then when I left, he would still have a dish on the house (well a bracket, anyway..I took the dish with me

)

It has to be an at least 80cm dish for mutifeed. A standard sky dish won't work.
An installation would put you back ~150€, and you have to have a receiver that does disecq, so again no skybox.
