Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    I have an owl, years old, at least 8 or 9. Sends to a head unit display, no wifi or anything, but I think the newer ones do.

    If all you are looking for is basic usage monitoring, I wouldnt go near a subscrition service (in fact, I wouldnt use a sub service for any sort of home control/smarts anyway).

    Loads of options, I had one years ago, currentcost, with wifi so you could also monitor online.. There is a few out (although more pricy) that not only tell you how much power you are using, but can identify which appliances are in use also (by measuring the noise pattern the device creates).

    Yeah, they are the ones that tell you down to appliance level what your usage is (without needing additional clamp meters). Neat, but a bit pricey. Would go for one maybe next year, am getting solar in, so waiting to see what the monitoring for this looks like.

    I have the smappee.

    They recently updated the app and looks much much better than the old. I love having all this micro info about what I use. The appliance detection is great too but it does get confused between various heating elements.

    I would recommend it completely.

    They look to be around 35euro on eBay. Maybe this could work for you OP

    Can anyone recommend a relatively cheap electricity monitor that can measure both day and night electricity usage where I can input the price I'm paying for the two.
    I currently have an efergy monitor which I'm happy with apart from the lack of this function.

    I got owl one for about 10 quid off adverts. For a while Airtricity etc gave them away free so you will get one if you keep an eye out...

    No point paying anymore....

    Bumping this, has anyone got good solutions for monitoring energy usage on multiple circuits (either via clamps) and/or via additional socket monitoring?
    I want to look at separating usage from car charging, heat pump and high users like tumble dryer?

    I thought Smappee would be good solution, but they seem to be launching a new range and not yet available?
    I have Energy Engage, but additional CT sensors seem to be out of stock everywhere, and nervous they may not be around for much longer, so looking at new solution maybe.

    Any other solutions for appliance based monitoring or other sub-metering methods?

    I'm not expecting them to give much to us, but more about making providers life easier for reading, and features for import/export, smart tariffs. Unless anyone has heard anything else?

    Few articles online about them. Roll out to start later this year.
