    Hey,

Hoping to stay here for a few nights next May. I will be in Cincinnati a few days before hand as I'm doing the marathon on May 3rd.

I found some old threads below, but am wondering if anyone's been there more recently. I like the outdoors. Would it be best to hire a car? Boulder is my main interest as I'm hoping to do a parkrun there on the Saturday, flying back to Dublin from Denver on the Sunday. Could stay in Boulder as a base Mon-Sat. Any difficulty getting getting a taxi from Boulder to Denver airport on the Sunday?

Any thoughts on places to stay too? I'm using Airbnb for Cincinnati.

Boulder is lovely! Especially if you like the outdoors. The town area is cool too. Nice restaurants, shops etc! The place is just filled with triathletes also cause of the altitude, so there's loads of bikes trails, hiking etc! Yes, best to hire a car.

That's great, thank you. Yes, I like the outdoors. :) Haven't booked anywhere to stay in Boulder yet.

I haven't yet decided on the return leg aspect. As in, whether to stay in Boulder and go to Denver airport to catch a 10:30am flight. Or a few nights in Boulder, back to Denver for the last one to be near the airport to avoid stress. There is a bus at 6:25am bus that would get to Denver airport around 7:47am (assuming there are no timetable changes, you never know), or a private shuttle option. Think a taxi would cost about $100.

I'm just back from a semester studying in Colorado State University. Colorado is some spot, you'll have a blast! it's 5,000 ft above sea level so when you touch down in Denver you might find you're short of breadth and are tired more easily. Don't worry you're body will acclimate but be sure to drink lots of water! Everyone uses Uber out here, in terms of taxis. I would recommend downloading the app on you're phone and you can easily get a lift this way. Public transport is very good around there too. I arrived in August so wouldnt have been too much of a difference from when you'ee going there. Are you into hill walking? loads of beautiful hills and mountains to choose from!

That's great, thank you. I do like the outdoors. I've opted not to do anything Denver other than fly into it. Will keep the altitude in mind, though. Going to focus Boulder and Colorado Springs. :) I've never used Uber, might come in handy in Cincinnati as I won't have the rental car for that part.

Yeah Denver is expensive, so that's a wise move, financially. Those are fantastic spots. My roommate was from Colorado Springs, he said it's very republican there haha but very beautiful. Yeah! Everyone uses it over there, it can be fairly cheap for short distance journeys and what not.

The Flying Pig is a great marathon. Uber is fine in Cincinnati, I drove for them for a while, and couldn't make much money because there are so many drivers. Surge pricing is race (though the flying pig may be one of the occasions that it happens.)

If you are in anyway into sports, the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame is one of the best baseball museums in america. Most consider it the best in the world after the National Hall of Fame in New York. Interesting link, Cincinnati had the first ever fully professional team (1869) and there was an irishman on the team.

Cincinnati is also home to the American Sign Museum, which is also a fun visit.

Thanks, I think I'll stay away from the politics, tbh.

Thank you. Have you done the marathon? I'm looking forward to it. Wouldn't a big sports fan. Do like museums, however and went to the HoF in Canada, for hockey. That was enjoyable.

I think when I searched Uber and Cincinnati, Free Now is what came up. Same as what's in Ireland? I've been busy lately and not done much research on getting around Cincinnati. My Airbnb is only about 1km from the expo, or a little longer to the start of the race.

The downtown area is walkable.....restaurants, venues, and the 3 sports stadia (hockey, baseball, football) are all nestled in a roughly 10x10 block area.

Over-The-Rhine (referred to as OTR by locals) is a revitalized area with a good nightlife. That's towards the north of the downtown area.

Cincinnati has one of the best zoos in the world, which is a little outside of downtown, so would require Uber.

There's also the casino on the east end of the downtown area.

Well, my trip didn't happen due to the pandemic.

Does anyone have experience of the weather in Colorado in November?

  • Registered Users Posts: 310 ✭✭myate

Could be snowy! Could be fine! We were there in mid October for our road trip and there was already snow on the higher Rockies, some of the mountain passes had brief storms (what we would consider snow storms!). When the sun is out it's nice & warm but chilly otherwise. Hiking in RMNP was lovely, snow & ice on the mountains but trails mostly fine and when there was snow on the ground it was easy to walk through.

How's phone coverage (i.e. mobile data) for Google Maps in this part of the world?

And are road tolls cash/credit card?
