What’s with all the leaves falling on the ground and building up ?
    It’s hardly autumn

Not an expert but think it's because the trees didn't have enough water to maintain all their leaves during the drought so shed some of them.

Tomorrow is technically the start of autumn ;-)
And yes all brambles etc are turning yellow here, blackberries (poor crop but the few we have) are ripening already --- all a few weeks ahead of normal schedule. Presume its all due to leaf drop to protect the tree during the extreme heat we've had.

It's only the start of Autumn according to Irish lore. Meteorologically speaking, and elsewhere, Autumn doesn't start until September.

Where's the "technically" coming from that tomorrow is the start of Autumn (more like technically not)? The start of Autumn meteorologically is September 1st and astronomically, September 22nd or 23rd.

As I say every year, from a weather and purely temperature point of view it's ridiculous to consider August autumn. It's often the warmest month in Ireland so cannot be considered anything but summer.

Some misery merchants love saying “ah shur that’s it now, summers over” once the August bank holiday has gone, drives me insane - August will always be summer
