Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    I have three newspaper apps. The guardian (great app), the Daily Mail and the Irish Independent ie independent.ie.

    I have noticed in the last few days that independent.ie have put a 'please register ' when you tap on certain articles. This is a new development as all articles were always freely available. Has anyone noticed this about independent.ie? What is all that about?

    On another issue. How come some newspaper apps e.g. the guardian is free yet others e.g. the Irish Times is not?

    Op-ed pieces have needed free registration for some time

    The Guardian is funded by the begging notices, and it seems to be working - ish. The Irish Times has a very significant paying digital base. Two different models, the Guardian one only really works as it's from a much bigger country
