The ending of the Cold War vs today.

The Cold War ended for several reasons, one of which was an acute awareness of the dangers of a nuclear war. This fear does not seem to be as prominent in people`s minds today as it was 35 years ago. Given the recent rise in geopolitical tensions between east and west, is there a need to raise awareness again of the consequences of a nuclear winter?

Do people know of the birth mutations that would impact the descendants of survivors? Are the inhabitants of cities aware of the different effects that a H bomb would have as you move away from ground zero?

Nobody wants to live in fear but widespread fear of nuclear war is healthy, if that is what it takes to prevent such a scenario. Here is a clip from the 1984 movie, Threads:

Anyone who watches that movie will want to abandon all nuclear weapons. There are no winners.
