Thunderstorm/Convective Watch - Winter 2011/12

    About time we moved onto a winter one of these. Thunder was reported at Belmullet today between 2 and 3 pm.

    A chance of thunderstorms in the north tomorrow, along with some severe wind gusts and tornadoes in the Level 1 area.

    Some sferics showing up in north Kerry and the Shannon estuary this evening as a heavy shower moves in.

    Galway does fairly well during the year for thunder and lightning. let someone else have some for a change:p

    Severe downpours in west Limerick at present. Lightning also picked up.

    Further bands of heavy, squally showers pushing in as well.

    Saw a a bit of lightning just east of Athenry in Galway on the M6 today around 6pm. The rain was absolutely pouring down at the time, some extreme heavy rain rates.

    Yes on its own, just did some googling and found my answer, so lightning radar covers thunder too then.

    Lightning flash from the North at 01:33 in Knocknacarra, Galway... Good few KMs away by the sounds of it.
