Looking to ID this tree species overrepresented in my back garden

    Hi all,

    Have a bunch of these at the end of the garden, all growing to a considerable height and varying in circumference from spindley to thick. All the foliage only apparent up in the canopy.

    Looks a likely match alright macraignil

    Original owners of the property were advised to liberally plant seedlings, as not all would take. Seems mother nature had other ideas.

    My grandmother had a couple of these in her back garden that the neighbours did not like because they got so big so it could be a good thing that there are lots growing together in your garden as it should mean they don't get so tall when competing against each other. Just checked Wikipedia and the record height for one was 46.6metres which is probably a bit big for most gardens.

    Unfortunately there are several that are 90ft+ but after years of letting that section of the garden go quite wild and unkempt, it's time to put some manners on it & these trees will be coming out as part of that project.
