Im sort of hoping its WW2 as BF1942 was just epic in so many ways, it spawned a whole generation of mods and modding teams but in general the game at endless replayability and was just fun to play ,, not to mention the countless hours i spent on desert combat and forgotten hope mods for it - good times for sure.

Either way i will definitely be buying whatever it is.
Along with maybe world of warcraft the BF series has occupied most of my gaming time over the years.

A few weeks back i reinstalled BF1 and BF4 after many months away and im thoroughly enjoying both, i cant get over the amount of packed servers for BF4 on PC.
BF3 and BC2 were also fantastic.

There was a bit of complaining as since they did the War Stories with were distinct and separate that they didn't have any stories playing as part of the central powers, it's even less likely they'd do Axis but would love to either play a Japanese pilot at pearl harbour or a German tank crew.

Was keeping fingers crossed for a Vietnam setting but that short clip seems dead set on WWII. Slightly disappointing to be honest, I want my damn choppers back Battlefield!! :D

Yeah looks like ww2 either way I'm happy, really enjoyed bf1 and still enjoy, even played a bit if bf4 online and it was fun, but server wasn't full on console,

with the way ea and dice done experimental weapons on bf1 you could get choppers in this game as Germany was developing them in 44/45 and I'm open to corrections but I believe the usa was as well

Not to mention the soundtrack. Love that Vietnam music. I'm still holding out hope for Bad Company 3 with anther Vietnam DLC pack.

Its may be delusional to do so but I want what I want.

Something just struck me - could this possibly be a multi-timeline Battlefield?? The tagline is "Never be the same", and there's surely no way they would blow the entire setting reveal on a blatantly clear post like that?

I like the sound of that.

Looks like a new kind of takedown.

But how could you translate multi-era into MP?

Map packs probably. Whatever way it happens it is sure to be expensive.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,539 ✭✭✭The Specialist

But how could you translate multi-era into MP?

Maybe something like a set map with 1944/20xx templates and different weaponry/vehicles depending on the version being played? I have no idea though, it just sounds to me like they are promising a real shake up with the tag line and setting it in WW2 cannot be the only reason for that.

Edit: Although COD had the tagline "Forget what you know" and that was basically pompous bollixology for the removal of a campaign mode :D

If it was multi setting, they could be moving towards a live service type delivery method with a subscription fee instead of just buying the game outright and then paying for map packs. Between the game and premium I paid €100 or so for BF1 for the two years it's been supported, and got hundreds of hours of gameplay out of it. If they made a subscription based service at €30/40 a year would you go for it?

They already tried introducing some kind of multi setting feature where once you owned all the games, you were supposed to be able to easily launch into a game of BF1 or 4 or hardline from the same menu. That never really seemed to get off the ground though.

If the above isn't happening then I'm happy enough with WW2, I agree with a poster above that yet another modern military shooter would be boring. Battlefield hasn't done WW2 in over a decade.

with the exact same screaming sounds from BF1? sounds that way to me.

More than likely it will be a battlefront reskin in the vein of BF1, animations of both are practically identical.
Happy with WW2 if true, i would of been surprised if they went with anything involving choppers, read over on reddit last year some time the existing engine was either unable to be coded for chopper gameplay and physics or was a hell of a difficult task , i dont remember exactly which.

They've said they're keeping the "War Stories" for the SP, so hope we get some Axis and it's not all Allied as we didn't get anything from the WW1 central powers.

I think Battlefield V will be the Second World War, but, and its a small but, a part of me thinks they might do an 'alternative reality/steampunk' Battlefield. One set in an alternative universe where the FWW didn't end, allowing the developers to go mad into all sorts of weird guns and tech that might have been made had the war continued. There is much pointing towards this: the experimental tech introduced in Battlefield 1, the fact that it appears to be Britain against Germany (as shown in the Twitter video), it's clearly historically based, and the talk about a new setting/'forget what you know', etc.

This will be an experimental Battlefield, methinks, set in an alternative reality where the FWW didn't end with a strong steampunk vibe.

Or, it will be SWW with the V playing a part because of Nazi Germany's V1 and V2 rockets which might be crucial to this game's 'levolution', i.e. a V1/2 rocket hits the map causing a massive transformation of the battleground.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefield/comments/8l9yck/increased_hue_on_the_sony_leaked_bfv_cover_art/
Sony leaked the cover art, which shows a guy with an M1 carbine and an M1911A1, so the WW2 thing seems to be done and dusted.

That's a US Paratrooper for sure. Jumpsuit and folding stock on M1

This might be the first time in about 6 years I don't buy either BF or COD, just a feeling of been there and done that for both.

No microtransactions and no more premium pass.

    Nice one.

Hmm.. I'm conflicted to be honest.

Reaction on reddit is... Not good!

That trailer was f*cking terrible. Not sexist, but having piles of female soldiers on the western front is completely immersion breaking.

It was one female. The same one, showing how you play your character and come back as your character when you respawn.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭Falthyron

A strong Bad Company vibe off the pre-rendered aspect of the trailer, particularly the humour. Also, it will have a 4 player coop mode.

SWW, no P2W (wouldn't rule out microtransactions for cosmetics just yet), no Season Pass. Give me a reason not to buy this! :D

Somebody at DICE watched Mad Max Fury Road a lot.

Women didn't fight on the frontlines for the western allies. Might be understandable if it was the Soviets or French resistance.

Do you regularly admire your avatar's design in first person perspective while playing FPS games? What difference does it make? This isn't an academic account of the SWW, its a piece of entertainment (taking many liberties) and I suspect most play these types of games to fly SWW aircraft, drive tanks, shoot MG42s and Garand rifles, not examine the biological make-up of an avatar.

If you want something, in terms of historical accuracy, more robust to question then direct it towards the use of a V1 in a battle. Considering the few that actually landed in mainland Europe, they targeted cities, not tanks.

Thats one of the best trailers I have seen from FMV into in game action and in that engine you know its possible.

So thats a purchase for me.

Me and yitsack discussing today if the music was going to be same remixed or not.

There were very subtle undertones to the original music at points, so they may not have finalised the score yet. BUT, if you watch the trailer again you can hear the original 1942 music playing in the jeep on the radio as its making its way across the battlefield. Hopefully, that was a nod to the fact that it may appear in this game.
