I'm currently doing Open University courses which I find to be excellently structured.

Just an additional thought - there are also a lot of evening/adult education courses around. Check out your local VEC for information. There is a huge variety of courses available across the country which a lot of people might not be aware of

City of Dublin VEC

Kildare VEC

Wicklow VEC

City of Galway VEC

A quick Google will bring up the other VEC's nationwide. If the courses listed aren't on the web, ring them and ask to speak to the Adult Education Officer - most VEC's have one, and they deal with these queries

There's also Kilroy's College who provide distance learning courses. Courses are not degree level but are more entry level. The qualifications aren't recognised by the government, but for the level they operate (beginner / vocational) their long standing reputation can be taken into account.

They would be comparable to ICS in the UK.

OSCAIL is being wound down though, so look into it carefully. It will still likely exist at DCU and current students will be unaffected. If looking to sign-up in coming years it might be worth clarifying the arrangements for course delivery as it may involve trips to DCU.

I am interested in getting some specialist training- am working as an SNA and will have pupil with autism from September - I'm looking at the some courses run by www.icepe.eu they look very good , some courses need no prior qualifications, but I'm just wondering if you need to be a teacher to do the advanced diploma in inclusive education? -would love to do the ABA training and work as a home tutor, - lgrateful for any advice,

I am finishing a Level 7 Building services engineering degree this June and I want to get a Level 8 qualification through distance learning. Are there any good engineering colleges that do recognized courses.

I am currently in my last year of a PGCE (Post grad cert of education) it's pretty useful and now the only way you can take up lecturing in a class room. It can be done by distnce learning or by attendance, once a week for example. It's handy as it is a generic course, so anything you have a qualification in you can lecture in! It's also free currently. Nice way to diversify your knowledge.

Can you do this with a level 8 degree or do you need a masters? I presume you cant do it with a level 7 degree can you?

Where can you do this course, I think a PGCE by distance learning sounds ideal for me. Can you do the teaching experience part in any local school?

Hi, not sure if I've posted this in the right thread, I'm training to be a chef at the moment however pastry class in college isn't that great, I'm wondering does anyone know of any evening or sunday classes specialising in pastry? even one day courses. I am really interested in pastry but I just don't get to do enough of it. Any suggestions, much appreciated

Hi mybest mate is doing a three year course in Portobello college in Law or legal studies sorry I know there is a difference so no offence to those already qualified! I dont know the exact name of the course but I know it will allow her to do her training as a solicitor at the end so takes about five years in total? I will check with her tomorrow and repost but if you go onto their website they should have all the info there that you need

hi does any one know where would i get some info on business & Account course full time or long distance in galway area or Athlone either would suit, im tired of FAS they are very unhelpful im registered with them, but i dont find that they want me to get a course outside the fas circle. its doing my head in at this stage im 2 months out of work. i want to do a course that will be regonized in companies. HELP:(

I'm interested in doing a Retail Management Diploma/Degree as I already work in the industry but I have no qualifications!!
There seems to be plenty of them at all levels....but anyone any experience of them or which course the best???

Really? I'm a third of the way through the History & Literature degree and this is the first I've heard of it.

I'm looking to do a part-time Graphic Design diploma/degree. The only one I can find at the moment is in Dublin. Does anyone know of any others that are available in Munster or Carlow/Kilkenny? I'm based in Waterford and Tipp and work full time so have to do it part-time.

Does anyone know where I can study economics to degree level in the evening or through distance learning? I studied it in first year in NUI Maynooth and would like to study it to degree level to be qualified to teach it in post-primary schools. I am looking into building it up module by module if needs be. Any help would be much appreciated.
