First off both the giant and Henry were by American sires, so it was always on the cards that they would be American sires...!
Secondly Ashford already have, uncle mo and cape blanco to stand next year so the chances of 3 new stallions standing in Ashford are slim and none...
Third thing is so you think hasn't got the American pedigree that Henry or the giant have, so its extremely hard to market him to the american market and with high chap going down the national hunt stallion road personally I can see so you think going the same way.. Plus he has that ungenuine look about him in his races too...!
Fair enough points about his not having an American pedigree and Coolmore USA not having room for him this year, O'Brien did say he would staying in training next year. It's possible that even if he won the Classic he would take in the big early season 2012 flat races and still head down to AUS to cover his first season. That would leave him free to take up the option of either Coolmore USA or Ireland the following Northern Hemishere breeding season.

You're taking the pee when you suggest High Chaparral is heading down the NH route, his stock has never been higher and he's an absolute legend in Aus. As for So You Think not looking genuine in his races, he has never looked ungenuine in his races, always put's in his best effort and is ultra-consistent. He may not be the superhorse the Australians think he is but he's as tough and genuine as they come. A very high profile stud career awaits him in AUS where he will any have amount of their best mares queing up for his services. He,s not such a good fit in Coolmore Ireland and if he was relying on the Irish stud alone he could very well slip down the ranks to NH status if he doesn't deliver the goods. The AUS connection will see him alright .

Finally so you think is running in blinkers, and people thought he was genuine...!

Just having a look at Mozart.
What a pity he died at 4. He did incredibly well with just one crop.

Twirl a full sister to Misty For Me, won her maiden today by 6 1/2 lengths at Leopardstown. One to keep in mind for next year.

Thanks for that tryfix,I was looking at Coolmore's site the last few days and saw they had the new stallions listed, but no prices.

Didn't realise Zoffany was standing next year.

What fee could Fastnet Rock have gone to? Am I correct in thinking he had an excellent year down south?

Fastnet Rock was standing at €30,000 this year according to the racing post, a private fee would indicate a fee of €75,000 plus. He might be worth that in Australia but he doesn't have the European track record to justify that kind of a fee. He has had 7 individual Gp1 winners so far in his stud career, at 10years old I don't know how many crops he's had on the track at a guess I'd say this years 2yo crop would be his fourth crop, Australian success doesn't always translate into European success. At a private fee he'd want to be nearly as good as his sire Danehill.

Zoffany is a nice type and I think he has what it takes to be a successful sire. I'd rather take a chance on him at €7,500 than Mastercraftsman at €15,000.

    As would I.
Not surprised to see Dylan Thomas down. I really did not like his 2 year olds this year.

I think you'd need to be barking mad to go to Canford Cliffs at 17.5k. I'd rather Rip at the same money,or Holy Roman for less. Danehill Dancer represents value there.

I really can't see who would want to pay 65k sterling for Dubawi. That is absolutely ludacris. I'd have Dansili above him any day of the week.

    King's Best at 12k isn't bad either

It's £75,000 for Dubawi, just can't see the logic in that price. His sons wouldn't exactly be red hot sire material either while a nice Dansili for the same money would be very attractive commercially.
Agree with you about Canford Cliffs, I like the horse but there are a lot of proven sires with better pedigrees standing for cheaper.

You'd want to be barking to go to Dubawi at that price.

I wonder are Darley setting his price to try and perceive him as a ''premier stallion'' as such. I'd much rather Exceed and Excel if I were going for a Darley one.

Not surprised at all to see Teofilo go to 25k,really liked his two year olds.

An absolutely beautifully bred filly by Sea the Stars sold for over 800k at the Goff sales today.

Look at this article,I never realised Sea the Stars was a son of Galileo, being half brothers and all.

A foal from the first crop of Sea The Stars was sold for €800,000 at Goffs on Thursday.

The foal sale which began on Tuesday came alight today with the battle to purchase the filly who is out of three-time Group One winning mare Finsceal Beo.

She was the first offering from the brilliant son of Galileo who won eight of his nine starts, including the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the Derby, the Eclipse and the Irish Champion Stakes.

Bidding started at 100,000 euros but quickly passed the half a million mark before being knocked down to agent John McCormack.

The second of his progeny to be offered was a colt out of Humilis, a Sadler's Wells mare who won a Listed race, and he, too, attracted plenty of interest before going to Blandford Bloodstock for 110,000 euros.

That was only the third highest sale on an exciting day at Goffs which also saw a daughter of Teofilo out of Grecian Bride sold for 200,000 euros to Derrinstown Stud.

Good to see them selling well Urban, hopefully they will do it on the track.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Any idea who he buys them for?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,669 ✭✭✭Colonel Sanders

Interestingly Jim Bolger owned a few of the dams of these foals sold. Not quite sure why he's not keeping them to race himself, especially the fillies.

He was a huge supporter of Galileo from Day 1 so no surprise he sent mares to STS in numbers.

Many of the ones Bolger sent were daughters of Galileo making the offspring inbred 2x3 to Urban Sea which I would've thought was a bit close!

I'm pretty sure I read on the Betfair forum that Finsceal Beo visited Galileo either this year or last.

He basically put Galileo on the big time list. He couldn't afford other Coolmore stallions so used him instead. New Approach and Teofilo have been two of his best colts and Teofilo has made a very nice start at stud.

The more I look at Dubawi's new stud fee the more I laugh. 75 thousand pounds is the worst investment you could possibly make.

That wouldnt exactly be Jim's version now though.

He did try the same thing before in the 90s - block booking his mares to an unproven first season sire, Last Tycoon, based on a hunch. He put all his eggs in the one basket, it was a disaster and nearly broke him at the time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

That was the excuse given at the time.

I remember reading about that,he mentioned it in that programme on him that Setanta had a few months ago. Nearly put him out of business. What a strange stallion to take a chance on too

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,122 ✭✭✭Imhof Tank

The Last Tycoon thing - he basically just took a view and backed his judgment, and was proven wrong.

I dont know Las Tycoon's breeding but I do remember him on the track - 6F specialist until he moved up to take the Breeders Cup mile. Very similar racing profile to Royal Academy who (from memory now so open to correction) came one or two seasons before him and would have been fashionable when LT retired.

Edit - actually, he retired in 86 so came before Royal Academy (bored so looked it up)

Sea The Stars certainly lit up Goffs sale. The Tsui family paid €850,000 for a Sea The Stars 3/4 brother to Soldier Of Fortune.

Banimpire sold for €2.3million and will continue her racing career in the US.

I can't wait to see some of Fastnet Rock's over here.

I see Duke of Marmalade's are going very well at the sales.
Bushranger's are selling ridiculously well too. Think I saw an average of about 20k off a stud fe of around 5k

  • Registered Users Posts: 140 ✭✭JimDeChamp

Fastnet Rock is a beauty, but he's gonna be screwd with his first 2yr old... But Coolmore have sent him some proper mares so hopefully his first full crop wil do him justice...!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

I don't think he'll be screwed with his first two year olds,I think he had 4 group 1 winners in Oz this year. He could be the new sprinter superstar stallion

    Aqlaam
    Sold:4
    Average:62,750 gns
    Fee:7,000 GBP

Officially he wil only have 1 two yr old in 2012 in the northern hemisphere which wil screw him for the fact that he could not be a leading first season sire...!

May not be but people will know of his quality.

The more I think about it the more I think that it was such a pity Mozart only got a year at stud. He could have been an absolutely fantastic sprint stallion
