13 Rounds of Round Robin Chess, Classical time controls, first round starts today. So far Esipenko and Duda have drawn, Magnus has beaten Alireza with White. The rest of the games have reached the first time control and continue.

Alireza ran into time trouble and blundered against Magnus's King Side attack, allowing a forced mate and resigning.

Round 3 just completing, looks like draws across the board. There were winning chances in a couple of the draws, notably Grandelius and Alireza who got into time trouble along with their opponents and didn't find the winning moves.

Add half a point to yesterday's standings and that will be our standings after Rd 3 in all likelyhood.

Nils Grandelius the only winner in Rd 5, goes into a solo 0.5 point lead with that fabulous victory over MVL after MVL took the poisoned pawn in the Najdorf. All other games were drawn, standings below.

Esipenko demolishes World Champion Magnus Carlsen with the white pieces, Magnus completely missed Nxc6 and his fate was pretty much sealed at that point, Esipenko will now end the day top or 0.5pt behind after the rest of the games play out.

3 definitive results today in Rd 9, Magnus picks up his first win, against Nils Grandelius, since his Rd 1 win against Alireza Firouja, having lost on Sunday in Rd 8. Caruana wins with black again against Wojtaszek, and Anish Giri tops the table with a white win against MVL who is having a dreadful tournament.

Jordan van Foreest wins the Tournament and becomes a 2700+ player in the process, he beat Nils Grandelius in the final round to tie Anish Giri who drew with Black. Anish lost his chance to be the solo winner letting Alireza Firouja off the hook in the previous round and snatching a draw from the jaws of Victory.

Jordan and Anish then played off in 2 blitz games, both drawn, before a final, chaotic, blunder ridden, Armegeddon game, that swung one way, then another, before taking a decisive turn on move 61 when Anish overlooked the g pawn and could do nothing to stop it queening despite Anish being a blundered piece up at the time.

Just saw it there - that's ridiculous. I'd be annoyed if that happened at Bunratty, let alone something as big as Wijk
