Registering Motorbike in Ireland

    Hi Folks,

I’ve been looking at an old ZX10 Tomcat on UK plates and I was wondering how the registration in Ireland works.

Ad says he has V5 but I have no idea how long it’s been in Ireland unregistered or what else I’d need.. invoices etc. I know for cars there’s a penalty if you don’t pay in under 30 days and it increases after time based on car age and engine size.

How does this work for a vintage motorcycle? Can somebody please explain..

V5? Which sort as they've changed them over the years and the really old ones are no longer valid. Ideally you'd want a current version of the V5C or a UK/NI address to get one.

If it's over 30, there's no VRT (100% discount) and if registered late I don't see how they can work out a daily penalty with a big fat zero in the formula. :)

If you've just bought it, there's no penalty to the new owner. Dated receipt from when you bought it is what counts.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
