And the Phillies don't look like they'll be getting Ohtani

Aaron Boone to be named Yankees manager.

Aaron Boone to be named Yankees manager.

    Did not see that coming.

Think I'm right in saying that Boone has no managerial experience.

It's a high risk move. Let's hope it all ends in tearsðŸ˜

Jaysus even I didn't see that coming.. Massive risk.. Be very interesting to see how this works out

Ohtani says No to the Yankees

Marlins have agreed terms with the Giants and Cardinals..
Its down to Stanton to approve it now

Ohtani says No to the Yankees

Not that they were ever in it, but the Mets were told no too.

So if you were Stanton, would you prefer the Giants or the Cardinals??

So if you were Stanton, would you prefer the Giants or the Cardinals??

Baseball reasons, the Cards. Lifestyle reasons, the Giants.

And the Giants won't be as bad next year as they were this season.

Boston were also told Ohtani's not interested so it's looking more and more like a west cost team's going to get him.

Why am I reading this stuff about him wanting to go to a smaller market team??

I don't know. He's going to on the minimum salary so I would have thought he'd want to go to a big market to make more from endorsements but maybe he's not too bothered by money and really is motivated by baseball.

I wonder if he did end up with he Giants, would that influence Stanton's decision/

I'd assume it would.. Be some coup to land both of them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,687 ✭✭✭✭jack presley

It certainly would. Add in Bumgarner and that’s some trio to build your team around.

My understanding was that NL teams are at a slight disadvantage because he wants to play DH and pitch.

My gut says the Giants land Stanton. They'll be an improved outfit next year and the pull of the West Coast may prove too much

New York Daily News didn't take Ohtani's rejection of NY too well

They are out too. He's only meeting 7 teams

    Padres
    Dodgers
    Rangers
    Angels
    Mariners
    Giants
    Cubs

The Cubs might be worth an outside punt

I just think NL is such a waste, unless they change their stupid rules.

    Mariners would be my guess

Funny thing is that I much rather watching NL games as there is far more strategy involved. AL is set your line up and sit back.

I’m with you on this Boccy. I much prefer games without the DH.

And I know most of the time a pitcher’s at-bat ends with an out but there’s always the odd occasion when one knocks one out of the park and that’s always a good laugh. Remember Bartolo in San Diego?

HOF ballot is out. Interesting names as always

Chipper Jones - no doubter. Still have nightmares about this guy playing against the Mets.
Vlad Guerrero: Should've gotten in last year, got close (71.7% out of required 75%). Probably gets in
Jim Thome - I'd vote no, kind of a "Hall of the very good" candidate in my view. He DH'd, that's a downside for someone getting in as a slugger (and why I was surprised Frank Thomas got in as easily as he did.)

Scott Rolen - too often injured in my opinion
Andruw Jones - flamed out, got fat, wasn't as terrifying after a few years.
Omar Vizquel - I'd vote for him based on his incredible defense. That's usually not enough though.
Trevor Hoffmann almost made it last year, he probably gets in.

We Mets fans, as much as I'd like to see Johan Santana get in, he was just hurt too much.

Details of the Giants' offer for Stanton are being reported. If true, they are offering their top 4 prospects and will pay $250m of the remaining $295m of the contract.

Is one player really worth that much to a team who struggled all over the park last year?

I don’t know. Seems an awful lot to give up.

Orioles are willing to listen to offers for Machado apparently

Makes sense to trade him. Orioles won't be in contention next season. So they should get what can for him now
