Indeed. I think Paul Pogba could be that player...

I don't think anyone can argue against Modric after last night's performance. He was mercurial.

It depends on the tourname winner. Before the semis, if England won it would have been Pickford, if Croatia won it would have been Modric, if France won it would have been Mbappe and if Belgium won it would have been Hazard. So between Modric and Mbappe now.

Pogba has had a great tournament, much better than PL performances, but it's between Modric and Mbappe. Modric stepped up every game but Mbappe is the new Pele/Messi/Ronaldo/Maradona and will take it, especially if France win on Sunday.

It'll come from Modric, Mbappe, Pogba for me.
Courtois & Pickford have been by far the best keepers.
Varane has stood out amongst cb's, Pavard as a fullback.
Hazard has at times looked very good.
Overall no obvious standout but a lot of players playing at a high level.

Interesting to look at previous winners of the golden ball, you have to go back to 94 (Romario) for the winner of the golden ball to also be on the winning team.

Winners since: Ronaldo, Kahn, Zidane, Forlan, Messi

It should be Modric. Pogba and Mbappe were very good in the knockouts but they didn’t do much in the 3 group games. Modric has been consistenty brilliant.

If France win, I think Modric would have to be the outstanding player in the final to be POTT...
