I've come round to Brian's unique, but [unsubtle] deft touch in describing matters over the years and now, love it.

He mentioned someone taking a "dunt" a few nights ago which was extraordinary in itself, but also lent to a poetic ease in which he speaks of the beautiful game.

Did anyone catch this gem from the Iceland-Nigeria game?

Kerr: The Iceland player Kari Arnason completed a Master's Degree in Business. His final thesis was on corruption in English football.

Hugh Cahill: Is that right?

Kerr: It ran to 5,000 pages.

Cahill: *starts laughing*

Kerr: Only joking, Hugh. I'm sure it wasn't that long.

Did I imagine it or during the Iceland game was BK saying that one of the Icelandic players cut off his beard and gave it to his brother to use as a 'fly' in fly fishing? And BK didn't know if it worked?
I demand closure on this anecdote!

Of course Kerr is not new to this. He will go back to commentating on LOI games, which he has done for years. May hear him on a Cork or Dundalk european game during July.

He is just a football anorak. In the mould of the great John Motson but even more extreme.

Probably not gonna give you the closure you need as it didn't have my undivided attention, but these words caught my ear in some form or other.
Can't be certain on brother or beard, but he definitely mentioned fly fishing.

Haha brilliant. Far dues to him he must do some amount of research to pluck little esoteric gems like that. In the Sweden v Korea game he said of the sub Oscar Hiljemark

"He was voted Sweden's best dressed man, whether it'll have any relevance on what he'll do on the pitch i dunno"

I love Kerr's commentating. His knowledge of the South Korea team in their first game was fantastic. He obviously did his homework on them and made it more interesting. I dont care about his accent. His comment about Iceland throwing the kitchen sink and a few fishing boats at Nigeria tonight floored me.

RTE need to start putting on Subtitles for him. I can't understand half the stuff he's saying.

Couple Kerr-isms earlier on on the Belgium/Tunisia game

Chief among them all, was his astonishment, that a "redser" was still plying his trade for Tunisia, despite him commenting on it before IIRC.

Also one of the defenders being the top scorer in the Tunisian league one season.

Hmm.

Since RTE aren't putting a co commentator on the less glamourous games of this round, I've a bad feeling we'll be hearing very little of Brian from now on.

It'll be Houghton, Whelan & Beglin by the looks of things.

I hope I'm terribly wrong.
