All, this thread has been created to allow you DCN posters to talk off-topic. A lot of you know each other IRL & through boards.ie & may wish to just have a good ol' natter about anything here. (But, remember that forum rules still apply.)

    Take care,

    HB

Isn't this what personal messages are for?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭Gillo

No a lot of forum's have an of topic thread, for general chat instead of a specific topic. Possibly not the best example but imagine having a general chat over a pint.

    Check out here or here.

No. It limits posters going off-topic in threads they shouldn't go off-topic in.

hahahaha, sorry man that cracked me up. But seriously, I didnt deliberately go off topic I just got carried away with the conversation and didnt know there was a rule against it. (not suggesting that youre accusing me)

this is confusing. so i talk off topic..... i will actually be talking on topic. which will actually make me off topic again. ha ha

    good idea thanks HB

if its because of cars on the beaches.... i have noticed increeased dangerous activites on roads. they not solving anything by doing this. they just brushing trouble under the carpet.

we need an unmarked car to spend a couple of hours driving around rush catchin these dangerous drivers. zero tolerance..... none of this ireland traffic corps (tv show) where they are all cool and nice.

book them. hit them in the pocket with fines and you will see a decrease.

its only a matter of time before something serious happens. ( i know there was that accident a few weeks ago.)

There are un-marked cars around Rush, but only late at night on the weekends, or at least thats the only time Iv seen them active.

Is Rush that bad these days? I'm from Swords and thought it'd be more troublesome than Rush but doesn't sound like it. Sounds mad up there!

You don't take my word for it?

What evidence do you have to prove that I haven't seen un-marked cars on the harbour road every weekend..

Agree with both of you above.

ZERO TOLERANCE. Its the only way. We are putting up with to much c**p day ib day out. Every night the lower main St in Rush is just a mess with speeding cars and the noise levels must be contravening the noise pollution laws, Oh they are not laws probably regulations;) I have spoken to a few Gardái and it is very difficult to prosecute some people as they move around so much. Cars should be confiscated and if the problem is not sorted within 14 days the car should be crushed, no storage fees.

Any older poster will remember what this area was like even 15 years ago, not just Rush but Lusk, Skerries and Balbriggan. A great place to grow up.
We have had some great people move in to the area who have been a great asset but the promised facilities didnt come to cater for their needs despite their hard earned money being clawed from them with various levies to Fingal C.C
    .
The amount of crap we have have to take is unbelivable and what did we get in return? Playground in Ardgillan, 1 at Red Island and 1 in St. Catherines 32 years after the residents moved in. We have playing fields that are not being properly maintained, potholes you would lose a pup in, over crowed schools, Edited out. They place is falling asunder.

Where would this part of the world be without the great clubmen of Fingal who coach young people in various sports every week? Not forgetting the great work done outside school hours by teachers

Maybe we are being a bit harsh. Dont think I would lve any where else. It just need a good shake up. Great people and some excellent facilities.

Most places have the same problems but no one likes it when its on their own door step. At least we have just got our beach's back.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,930 ✭✭✭Martron

    +1 leob

it needs a shake up. its because the place is so small we probably notice it more. but in all fairness why not catch the problems now before they spiral out of control

no you misread me. i quoted you on the word active. they may be here but they never seem to be where anything is happeneing. i was not doubtuing that you did not see them

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,254 ✭✭✭LeoB

They are around a fair bit but its not enough. There is nothing like a Guard on foot. Even during the day. Our Community council is fairly quiet on this, and most other things. The Gardái dont play enough of a role in the community.

They should also be going into the schools and talking to youth. I have said before most of the youth around Rush are great. Really good "kids" and its the same I am sure in other Fingal towns.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,930 ✭✭✭Martron

but if word got around that the guards were crackin down on social crimes they would not happen as much as people would just not want the hassle of having to deal with the consquences

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,254 ✭✭✭LeoB

Just looking around Rush it feels like there is a huge sense of apathy about things, ah sure why worry about it?

Another great amenity we have is the woods accross from the Garda station. But it has got to the stage you cant bring the kids in there to run around. It disgraceful. I took some photos of the neglect from Fingal C.C and here I am driving by this evening and some of the grass was actually cut. But it is some dump. Litter from all the illegal drinking that goes on at the weekends. Also the scout den which I imagine is a protected structure is a disgrace with the graffitti, nothing has been done with it in months, maybe its art!! I have sent 1 email to Secretary of community council about speed ramps on Lr. Main St. My next will be a list of actions which we as townspeople need to address and share with other communities.

As someone told me recently "we aint here for a long time, we are here for a good time so make the most of it"

Thats a brilliant idea, Iv never once seen a Gard on foot in Rush.

Question: Regarding the sale of cigarettes, drink and possibly other things from a house on Rush main street.. legal or illegal?

I imagine its Illegal, but the question or challenge is "prove it". I was offered a carton of Cigs after this lady saw me buying a packet in a shop.Apart from the scam side of this, where do the cigs come from, are they genuine there is the question of lost revenue. The law is a bit messy about bringing in cigs. You can bring in up to 10 or 15 cartons and all they can do is take them off you, no fine. So charge €200 for disposing of them

Would imagine its also illegal to use the front of your rented house to sell cars on the footpath, but they probably come with 6 12 month warrenty.

Better to select words very carefully. If so many locals know what is going on how come the Guards dont raid the house?

One Guard walks around quite a bit.

Its a very well known fact among my age group what's going on in 2 houses on the main street, I happen to know the drink is Sainsbury's vodka, they buy that while on their trips up the the North, not sure about the smokes.

Oh and the Gards havent been informed because its the very ppl that know about the activities, who take advantage of the discount booze and smokes :P

Saw a garda on a bike in Swords today. Well surprised with that.Thought it was just a city centre thing. My Dad said he's seen gardai on horses around Swords!

If you guys know about the certain 'things' going on in Rush, would the gardai not know about it? Is it a case of not enough gardai in the area?

This is the mess I mentioned above. Thw woods was a great playground for kids to play in, just an open space but with plenty of birds,(with feathers) Squirrels and rumours of a fox. Now its full of glass, empty cans and rubbish and totally overgrown. But someone must have seen me with my Camera some of the grass has been cut back, a bit. The scouts must be sick as the den had just been painted for the new Gael Scoil. It lasted about a week.
