    This is my 1977 504L - it was owned by the one guy since new and has only 40,000 on the clock :cool:

    Sure I may as well throw in my 1975 Daimler 4.2 here as well - its reg date is 1/1/75 so it qualifies for the classic car tax - otherwise there could be a bit of a situation. :eek:
    That only leaves the TR6 and the GT Junior to post but I have no nice pics of these on the computer at the min so those are for another day.
    Must get the TR6 out of the garage today to give it a bit of a spin - like to drive it at least every two weeks. Well with all the new metal flying about the place here its important not to forget the old stagers - they still like to be given attention as well :D

    To post pics, just save them on your computer, then click on 'manage attachments' (half way down the screen when you are posting).

    Then simply click on 'browse', choose your pic, click on 'upload' (usually takes a few sec to upload) then close the upload window and post your comments (and pic!) as normal.

    As I said before on tcm classics, i'd love to have a tr7 convertible. Wait looks in garage. I do yahay, hey I know noone likes them but I love it. :D

    And TR7 convs go relatively cheaply to boot !

    the manta ray was germany's ansewer to the capri. I think it was a small production run. I only ever saw two and both were yellow. It looked like a more fashionable capri. and was made alongside the mk 1 manta's. It hade a chrome graphic of a manta ray fish on the boot lid.

    yes I have to agree my tr7 cost 900 stg, I have spent a further 1000e boosting performance, and 700 e vrt. It still goes like a snail :eek:

    I've a TR7 convertible in the back of my parents garage.
    It's got a Dolomite Sprint engine. Does that make it a TR7½?
    There's also a TR6 convertible, a Golf GTI convertible and 911 Carrera SC, all in various states of repair.

    tr7 with dolly sprint engine is called tr7 sprint. Very few factory made. a lot wer'e converted to sprint by enthusiast's. if yours is a factory sprint very rare. pants.

    the tr7 outsold all other triumph sports cars (not bad for a car everyone hated) the tr7 sprint i think had only 120 examples factory built.

    What's the definition of a 'Classic Car' ?
    Most of the ones mentioned so far are just fairly run of the mill old crocks !

    Some one mentioned a Porche Carrera and maybe the Rolls........but otherwise....

    one of the reasons that rolls values are declining for the shadow and climbing for the old tat is that perversely the old tat was so poorly built thatthere is very little of it around. hence the prices rise for the junk.the rolls on the other hand was built right although having said that the citroen hydralics are prone to failure after all these years. when the rolls started life it cost an astronomical amount of money. also fuel prices in the uk dont help fueling a 6.75 litre motor.

    Well our classics may be tat, but there was no need to say it out loud.
    well it's easy to love a beauty, to find love in the more ordinary goes beyond the fleeting obvious, it takes time to find a daffodil on the rocky cliffs. :eek:

    i was out a few years ago with a friend who had an old rover (p5 i think ) anyway we went on a charity run with other rovers and other 'classics' and stopped for a nice lunch in meath somewhere. anyway to cut to the chase we had a look at the other cars and were talking to the drivers of them.
    one guy with a serious face in front of his mates was telling us the secret of painting a car with a paintbrush and dulux paint. i kid u not.
    the cars were scrap for all intents and purposes but i appreciate the time they spend just to keep them going on a shoestring.
    ive gone to a few classic car auctions and it really amazed me the amount of tat, the poor poor condition of it and furthermore the crazy prices they were going for.
    my advise to anyone in this country who wants a classic is to realise that most classics in this country are scrap, very few people can afford the 1-2k a year it takes to maintain them. particularly when many enthusiasts here have several of them and a real modern car and a family and a mortgage.........the only advantage here over the uk is that the roads arent salted and they rust less here. even if im being a bit biased i am not as many classic cars in the uk are crap however because its a larger country there is better selection and the market is freer so prices reflect quality.

    I have a Morris Minor at home but it's not running. I'd love to do it up but am in college at the moment. A classic that I have always loved to have is the Volvo P1800;

    Yeah, the P1800 is a cool car. I know of a guy who has recently purchased a mint silver '67 P1800 - which he intends to use as his daily drive !!

    when your refer to classics being 'scrap', what age group of cars are you referring to ?

    e.g. up to 20yrs old ?
    20-30 yrs old ? etc

    You dont mind me asking who is doing it for you as I have a TR6 - its in good nick at the moment but you never know when you might want to get a little nip & tuck done. I had it over in UK in 2001 - a place called "Enguineity" in London - specialists in TR6. They did extensive mechanical work as the cars body is fairly good - like a new car afterwards and a huge increase in fuel economy :D
    It cost an arm and a leg though :mad:

    various ones, hard to generalise, usually low value stuff though. where people feel a cars only worth a few grand no point in puming the same again into it. and ive noticed many enthusiasts have more than one and cant afford to maintain them.

    there are a few nice ones about but only where owners have put as much as its worth into it again and what sane minded person would do this? even the guy who owned the rover had several others like a jensen intereceptor formula 4 by 4, a silver spirit, the rover , a mid 60s 230 sl, volvo something or other and 1 more.
    now in fairness he was a low end millionaire but he liked his cars and was willing to spend on them. however i got in the volvo and leigned back into the seat and it collapsed backwards. the rolls developed a rear axle hydralic leak (self leveling suspension) this cost him 2000 euro to repair, the jensen although it looked well was constantly overheating and breaking down, the sl was nice i have to say (bought from silver arrows a few years ago) and the rover was mint but he pumped 15000 into it.
    now in fairness he had the money for them and he had more than one.
    can u imagine the average bloke who has no money, has several cars and isnt a professional. ok they have enthusiasm which u can admire but that isnt enough.
    all the cars i saw a few months ago at the classic car auction in ashbourne apart from the 100000euro silver ghost and a 76 shadow that didnt sell were scrap. at the end of the day why sell a car unless for some reason u dont like it?

    Was that auction in Ashbourne at Merlin Car Auctions ?

    Are classic auctions are regular feature with them ?

    I remember they used to have classic and vintage auctions when they were known as Windsor Car Auctions, and were based on Belgard Road, Tallaght.
    Haven't seen one advertised in a long time though.

    Any other company do classic auctions in Ireland ?

    hi, twas merlin alright, it wasnt that long ago actually say sept or oct around that sort of time frame. u had to buy a catologue to get in (5euro)but was great value as u could sit in all the cars. some also had keys etc so u could have a good look around.if u were looking for a classic i can honestly say there were many varied brands and vintages there. everything from a toyota cressida to the silver ghost. alot of it was in very poor condition. a fiat topolino i looked at looked as if it was about to self destruct before me. still great place to get a feel for things. many jags/ rovers/ triumphs/mercs the odd roller/ bentley etc
    i looked at a 70's bentley t2 as well and was in poor shape on the interior front. i doubt the mechanicals would have taken the car 200 yards down the road (no doubt why the owner wished to part ways)
    im actually not sure how regular they are but are great great fun. give them a ring and ask when the next one is, i might see u there :)

    oh not sure bout other auctions but id say merlin the only one there must have been 100+classics there that day. the silver ghost was very nice and went for 100000. they had it as the last auction :)

    I would like to attend a classic auction in Merlin to see what's about.

    The only classic auction I have attended so far, was back in c.1994 in Kilkenny at some big farm estate sale - had lots of classics, tho many very iffy.
    I nearly bought a 240Z on the spur of the moment, glad I was outbid tho !
    When I looked more closely at the car afterwards, it had loads of metal patches under the wheelarches ! :eek: :D
