Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    I think i tried lidl blades years ago and they cut the face off me.might give them one more try they could have improved.

    Buy yourself a safety razor. You'll recoup the initial outlay in less than 6 months vs the mach 3 rubbish. After that you'll be shaving for about 20c a week max!

    To be honest, it's not the razor, it's the blades and taking your time. This is what I use

    Yeah. That’s true. Astra blades cost €8 for 100 so essentially a years worth. Takes about 60-70 euro to get set up for safety shaving then costs are minimal.

    The green astra I reckon are the best tried a few different brands.
    Wouldn't bother with the starter set.

    You need...

    Do yourself a favor and shave after a hot shower. It's the way to go and you'll save a fortune and get a way better shave to boot. I'd be afraid to use a Gillette at this stage, way too many blades for my liking.

    Shaving.ie is recommended. Super quick delivery and a good price. Perasso stuff is good for soap. You also need a brush. They do a a starter pack for €45

    I have never tried those safety razors and i don't know why but i dont think i will be.i would try one if a friend gave it to me etc.but im not shelling out money to find i don't like them.

    Never met someone who hasn't liked a safety razor shave, as long as they've time or shave regularly. The only "problem" with them is rushing or leaving facial hair go too long and that's when you pick up nicks and cuts.

    It's not that blades get blunt, they get dirty! Clean properly after each shave (probably only takes 90 seconds) and a blade will last a month easy...

    Have always meant to go down the safety razor route but the price of the handles at around 50 quid has put me off. Is there anything around 20 quid out there that will do the job just as good?

    Boots have a plastic handle which I've used. I normally take it on holiday with me as it wasn't expensive. Blades still cut using it but it's not as comfortable as my metal handled razor.

    I used this website a lot in the past, they still give 5% discount with coupon code: 'boards.ie'

    For the nicks, an alum block is good to rub over wet face. You can pick them up on AliExpress & if look for 'alum deo stick', will find them for about €2-3

    yeah the time thing could be a problem for me and also I can go a few days without shaving. I see a shave as a chore to be done quickly rather than something to be savoured. Out of interest how much longer would shaving with a safety razor take over your 4/5 blade Gillette

    There's no doubt that it takes longer to shave with a safety razor. I'm certainly not going to lie about it, but if you're shaving every day, you're really talking about 4-5 minutes. I'm lazy though and only shave once a week. As I would have significant growth, it's a 20min job for me but I take my time and enjoy it.
