The May meeting of the monthly Green Building Users' Group is organised by NICER Training, Éasca and the Irish Green Building Council.

Tuesday 15 May | 18.00pm – 19.30pm | Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, Custom House, Dublin 1 | Free
(This is been held in the Conference room on the 1st floor in the Custom House, accessed from the main entrance on the Gardiner St side.)

Numbers are limited so please RSVP to this email if you wish to attend.

This month's presenter is Martin Vaughan, Assistant Principal, Architecture/Building Standards, Dept. of the Environment, Community and Local Government. Martin will discuss the draft Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2012. This will be followed by Q&A.

The events at Priory Hall Apartments and the publicity surrounding this late last year increased the urgency for the strengthening of the Building Control System. There was considerable discussion on the Building Control system at the Better Building Conference on 25th April. It was agreed that there was need for greater clarification on the proposed system prior to the closing date for public submissions and this event gives an opportunity for building professionals to look at the proposals and put their questions.

In April the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Mr. Phil Hogan, T.D. published the draft Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2012 for public consultation. This proposes a strengthening of the system including the requirement to lodge drawings prior to commencement. The following documents were published for public consultation.

Draft Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2012 (pdf, 163kb)
Strengthening the Building Control System - A Document to inform public consultation on Draft Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2012 (pdf, 214kb)

Consultation on the proposed changes closes on 24th May 2012 at 5:30pm .

Upcoming GBUG meetings are on the following dates: 12 June 12, 17 July 12
