No wonder RTE are forced to cut wages.
Tonight's coverage of the club football match in Portlaoise where Eire Og Carlow gave the home team a trimming is a case in point.
Ger Canning doing the commentary may not be everybody's favourite but tonight he was joined
by a female whose name I don't know as I missed the 1st half, but sweet Jesus was she tough on the ear. Canning barely got a word in during the commentary as she jumped in with silly comments like " it'll be very interesting to see what happens next" and her trump line " this is a great game of football". You might say 'so what'? but we were subjected to these two comments every couple of minutes . No doubt she got paid a few hundred €€€ for this.
This gender balance sh one T is gone beyond the beyonds now in Montrose.

Lest I be accused of sexist comments let me say I enjoyed the ladies game on TG4 with two exciting teams with a lady reffing and good football played.
Once again Brian Tyers was excellent on the mike assisted by a cailín who just didn't know when to comment. Never stopped yapping in a piercing high tone that forced us to hit the mute button despite loving Brian Tyer's lovely blas.

Couldn't watch the game myself due to Canning calling it Portleesha. Every. Second. Sentence. It's like he was trying to say it as often as possible and I couldn't "unhear" it.

Didnt find anything wrong with the co comm, maybe she was a bit inexperienced or nervous but seemed fine.

And the likes of Dessie Dolan, Martin 'it must be said' Carney & Bernard Flynn are so much better as co-commentators? Very high standards ye have there.

Personally, I have no interest watching a game where a team is 1/14 to win.

    Harsh.

You obviously have a certain expectation of the type of contests the initial 2 games will be?

Defensively minded football contests which will be inevitably low scoring and one sided?

    I've an open mind.

Really looking forward to both games, the Nemo Rangers v Clonmel Commercials game could be cracker.

I would be amazed if the 'main event' is not the most lobsided game of the three.

Absolutely. About as close to a foregone conclusion as you'll get.
The Ulster final will be septic. I cant see anyone wanting to watch that game bar the parishes involved.
The only game with potential is the munster final. It could be dour but at least there's potential.

Can anyone with sky sports/bt sports premier sports package confirm if Saturday night league matches that are on eir sport are shown on premier sports. Ordering sports package here and won't get bt unless they have the national League matches

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,504 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

They won’t be shown in Ireland, Premier Sports have UK rights only. It will be blocked the same way as Pro14 rugby that is shown on both eir Sport and Premier Sports is blocked in Ireland on the latter.

Does anyone with virgin media know if all the Saturday national league games come with it? I only seem to have an eir sport 1 channel at the moment. I got the eir sport app last year with my broadband and there were 2 channels to show games simultaneously.

They’ll show whatever games, if any, are on eirSport 1.

Missus works for virgin media and says she doesnt think they are showing the GAA, that was only a deal for the rugby apparently. But she will check on Monday for certain.

They carry Eir Sport 1 on their service so they just will show whatever Eir Sport 1 is showing. It wasn’t just rugby because I have watched other sports on it.

Understand that, the other poster seemed to be asking if VM Sport would be showing the same games as eir sport, which doesn't seem like they will be.
