Nothing to do with the EU.

I think the UK are somewhat copying this EU Directive. Directive (EU) 2017/853 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 May 2017.

We put it into operation through this S.I. http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/eli/2019/si/420/made/en/print

Yup ,just the UK copying the EU directive...Why? They still have to comply with EU legislation if they want to sell into the UK ASFIK UK made firearms.

There isn't really any bulk manufacturers of firearms in the UK anymore though, thats the thing. BSA, Parker Hale, Sterling etc etc are all gone. Maybe the likes of Accuracy international, or BSA airguns, but the Turks, Germans and Italians have the mass market covered. Odd.

Purdey,H&H,Rigby,etc...The bespoke brands have to come with the same approved standards to be EU sellable too.

The UK manufacturer's don't need legislation for this. They could have started marking the pressure bearing parts themselves without the need for UK legislation requiring them to do so.

Oh do have a look under your great grandpaters H&H breach and lock next time ol chap! Full of the dashed things from proving it from BP to nitro and what not.So I suppose another one or two to keep the Huns and Frogs happy across the channel wont make much of a difference when we sell them some proper British firearms, what?;)

they do ASFIK.This is just to be able to sell them in the EU so they are traceable, and its not every part either just pressure bearing.

Looking at you too Irish gunsmiths. You build it,you gotta mark it now as well here under this legislation, otherwise, you cant legally sell it in the EU .

I have a Dublin made sidelock and it has diddly-squat in terms of proof marks, just the makers name on the rib and a serial number on the trigger guard

He’s pointing out the fact it’s similar to the EU directive.
But it’s in no way a result of the EU directive. It’s a home office circular. It is entirely an independent UK action.

His point was that UK manufacturers could have voluntarily met EU requirements with any firearms they they wanted to sell in the EU. As currently happens in many many industries. The additional UK law wasn’t required for that reason as far as I can see.

The rifle in question is on it's way to France to sit in a vacuum along with the Kilogram, I'm afraid to look at it in case I mess it up.

(Yes I'm aware it's only three shots but I wanted a good first day back out!)

I've seen one or two MAS-36s over the years here, but never inquired as to their ammo source.

But yeah, 7.5 french is going to be about as rare here as 300blk.

Mind you PPU does still produce it so I'd say a friendly RFD could bring some in if there was the demand.

Bit like the Swiss K11/K31's, lovely rifles, but if i ask in dealers about them, i get a blank stare, ditto 7.5 swiss ammo.

    Indeed.
Shame the narrative among UK politicians has gone straight to restricting firearms more, but that's par for the course I suppose.

Regardless of the activist's racist leanings I hope she recovers and the scrote who did it is caught.
