Very important topic. Anywhere in Mayo, whatever food and place you go to. What's the one you'd recommend to someone.
I'd probably go for pizza in munroes Westport.

    Danollas also good in Westport.

Pizza Bros Castlebar, easily best takeaway/fast food in Mayo at the moment.

Second that and not just the pizzas, the burgers are quality.

Was in there Friday, while its good I've had better without any disrespect to them. Wife had a pulled pork pizza. Overkill on the sauce.
Kids had chicken gouons and they were excellent.

Ill go back for sure, but I wouldn't say they are the best ;)

Blue Thunder Westport chips are the business.
    Chicken not so much.

Not the biggest fan of the Pizza Bros, find the toppings to be quite bland and sparse, plus it always strikes me as a poor mans Dough Bros from top to bottom, but fair play to them for trying something new in town and they have been very accommodating with young relatives having birthdays in there.

Well, no disrespect to the wife, but I would never put pulled pork on a pizza! :)

Cafollas in Ballina - one of the best fish & chips going anywhere.

Pizza Bros in Castlebar, a really fine pizza. Wood fired pizzas are savage anyhow, but their menu options are great.

Give me a Nico's over Pizza Bros, nice chips as well.

I don't believe there is a great European take away in Mayo but some very good ones, here is my list:

    Ballinrobe: Rosie's

    Ballyvary: K's cafe

Castlebar: Nico's, Cafollas (Danolla's is grand too like), Blue Thunder, Bowling alley takeaway

    Claremorris: Vals

Ballina: Blue Dolphin (also killala and newport, but it has gone down a little)

Foxford: Blue thunder ( was bens)

    Swinford: Blue Thunder again

Knock: Hillside ( its a hidden gem)

    Balla: Sorrentos

Belcarra: carra chips ( can be amazing but it dips depending on who is cooking)

    Charlestown: Broadway

----Kurdish/ Turkish--- both better than charcoal grill in galway to my mind

    Westport: West kebab
    Castlebar: Castle kebab

    --- Indian---
Kiltimach: Curry House ( only when the quiet guy with the beard is there, he is a proper Indian/ Pakistani chef.

    ---Chinese---
    Claremorris: Alisan

I dont know much about whats in north west Mayo.

    ====
My favorite takeaway in the west would be Hotrods in Collooney Sligo

    ---
In Mayo, probably Sorrentos in Balla or West Kebabs

Kays in Ballyvary & Shanes Diner in Turlough are closing soon.

Expect Shane's to be taken over by a more experienced team in the coming months, but it could be the end for Kays.

    Val's Ballyhaunis?

Haven't been there in ages, but was always a great place

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 572 ✭✭✭voz es

Vals in Ballyhaunis has lovely food, i'd say they are on about Val's take away in Claremorris, opposite from the banks.

Blue Dolphin definitely the standout in Ballina area for standard fast food. Chipmongers was a loss; I guess they were too far out from the centre to pick up casual clientele. Fry Days now my go-to when the van isn't there.

Papa Johns and Apache both do good pizza.
