    Hi All,

I'm doing up my own house shortly & used to fit lights & sockets etc. back when that sort of thing was allowed by DIY. Now I'm redoing all floors upstairs in a second hand 3 bed semi I'm in the process of buying so felt it would be a good time to put in downlights in the ground floor as access from above would be easy.

What would be the ballpark cost for this for an electrician? Just in labour terms. Assuming a relatively straight forward job with floor boards easily raised etc. The ground floor is 50 Sq M so we're talking maybe 12 downlights.

    Thanks

Firstly no law stopping you from adding in the downlights to the existing circuits if you want, however I would recommend you get an electrician.

The cost is going to come down to hourly rates which seem to be anywhere between €40 to €70 per hour for domestic electricians plus any materials supplied by the spark. I would expect from what you're describing any sparks pricing will just allow a day for it so anywhere from €320 to €560 plus materials.

Ah that's great, thanks a lot for that. Hopefully the lower end!
