New Zealand are well and truly dealing with it,in the best way...astonishing and heartbreakingly sad that Ireland hasn't followed their template from day one...25 deaths since Covid started compared to our 4000 plus...and yet our government still not imposing mandatory quarantining.

as others have said, you simply cannot compare countries, strict border controls are politically highly divisive here, its understandable why our government is being extremely cautious so, but yes, there is a serious price to pay

I don't get what you mean?

It's unitary state 3 hours flying time away from the nearest country which itself is along way from countries that it is most "in contact" with - China, EU, UK, USA etc.

We are sharing an island with the UK and are 90 mins from the rest of the EU which has no interest in closing down borders within itself.

For every NZ you mention (they ain't many more) I could mention 15/20 countries who haven't got to grips with the virus. NZ is the exception and not the norm. As other posters have stated, they are in a unique situation. They don't have a land boarder with another country that isn't willing to talk to us for starters. And they aren't part of a huge trading bloc. Apples and oranges and all that...

Why exactly are off licenses still open when you can get all the drink you want in supermarkets? Are we just a nation of pure alcoholics and its an unwritten rule that access to alcohol in tense, powderkeg situations like 24/7 lockdowns is the only thing preventing multiple murders?!

I was feeling a little positive when I read the above figures but I went to

the RTE website and they are showing Waterford had 257 new cases over

    the last two weeks!

Remember the Thursday before Good Friday. It was like the last helicopter out of Vietnam in supermarkets and off licenses and that was only for one day without access

God forbid any adult should dare to buy alcohol legally and enjoy it sensibly in their own homes! Bad enough that the off licence sections are now cordened off like some hazardous materials lurk behind the gates of hell. Is the consumption of alcohol about to become the next target of the "woke" snowflake gen Z(any) revolution? And wasn't it Doctor T that was saying recently "the virus loves alcohol"? Trying to guilt the public into sobriety and solitude.

You opening sentence and in particular the words ‘enjoy it sensibly’ are where your argument doesn’t stand up......too many below a certain age group simply can’t control themselves with alcohol.....

Does anyone have the detail on the vaccine roll out?
All I see is cohort this and cohort that but no actual timelines as to when a particular cohort gets it or when a particular cohort will be completed and went they move on to the next cohort.

    I hate that word, cohort.

It doesn't give a breakdown as per county but in my view it only adds

to my argument of why the park should have been closed.

a difficult balancing act, you have to provide some sort of facilities, so people can maintain some sort of well being

    No they don't!

That part is up to yourself!

This isn't a lockdown for entertainment purposes!

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,703 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

    No they don't!

They actually do, government has a duty of care for all citizens, which involves both physical and mental care, this is actually why the park remains open. Closing it would have a major negative effect on the well being of the local citizens, socialising is a critical human need, hence why we do it, the more strict restrictions become, the more unpredictable and erratic we become. Some leeway is required here, to prevent people from climbing the walls, it's been an extremely difficult winter for all, and we 're nearly there now, another couple of months and it 'll be summer, and we should be well on our way with these vaccines. Wouldn't surprise me if the car chase in Dublin was related to restrictions, such measures tends to destabilise us

Yes, it is a difficult time but numbers will increase and with that comes deaths.

I don't want to appear as a scare mongerer but that is the reality!

The problem is our herd nature. As soon as it becomes know that you can use the park we herd together and kids out for a walk with parents becomes families mixing with parents stood around talking and kids playing together.

People are just too stupid. For example they don't just stand around talking they stand around talking in the groups blocking the paths leaving others to squeeze past them.

If you give any leeway then people take the p!ss.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Those who wish to stretch the restrictions to their absolute limit will be along shortly to tell you off.
