Hello everyone, I have returned from the Land of the Rising Sun and what a trip it was. Ireland didn't last very long in the Rugby World Cup after I arrived, but on the plus side it meant that I got to relax and enjoy my holiday (and didn't have to go through the ordeal of swapping tickets again!).

Despite Ireland being out of the tournament, the discussion carried on over in the Rugby forum. The post-mortem has continued and attention has turned to the next World Cup cycle. As they did after the 2015 World Cup, users have been attempting to predict their match day 23 for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. In the meantime, we have the Pro 14 and the Champions Cup (which gets underway this weekend) to enjoy.

Last month, our Dublin City Marathon novices became graduates. You can read race reports and final times in the Dublin City Marathon 2019 Mentored Novices thread. With that done and dusted, our graduates are now chatting about life after the marathon and what they plan to do. Should you wish to take part in the Dublin City Marathon next year (either as a novice or an experienced head), you will need to enter the lottery.

In other sports news, the Boards Golf Society wrapped up its 2019 season. Captain benny79 wrote up a match report here, and
they won! Congratulations to all involved
. If you would like to find out about getting involved next year, you can read the dedicated 2020 thread. spacecoyote has taken over the reins as captain and has outlined the events that the Boards Golf Society will take part in and how the year works.

If you're a cyclist, you may have spotted some Boards jerseys on your travels. The Cycling forum is ordering a new batch of jerseys and you can post in this thread if you would like to put your name down for one.

One of the site's most popular thread series, You Laugh You Lose, is onto its 10th iteration. You can enjoy all the new LOLs here. If you have any clever suggestions for the thread's new name, you can submit your ideas here before December 12th.

Speaking of popular threads, ten years after they took Boards by storm, padraiggg returned with another chapter in the saga of The Madman, Trent. And, of course, it was worth the wait.

On the TV front, the Great British Bake Off 2019 series wrapped up at the end of last month. If you were inspired by the series, it's worth heading over to the Food forum, where bakers often show off the delicious things that they've whipped up. The Reality TV forum's interest has since moved onto I'm a Celebrity 2019. With the cast list confirmed, it's given fans a chance to pick out who they want to root for in the early days.

Halloween is out of the way and Christmas lights have been going up around the country. The countdown to Christmas is on in earnest now! If you have a furry friend and want to get involved in a Secret Santa, the Animals & Pet Issues forum has opened signups for its annual Secret Santa.

Of course, the Christmas forum will really be ramping up over the coming weeks. It'll be a great forum to talk Christmas movies, purchases, ads, events, Christmas FM, advent calendars, and much more!

And then there's the discussion over the decision to stick up the "Welcome to Grafton Quarter" Christmas lights over in After Hours. It's not to everyone's taste, that's for sure!

Another popular thread that's marking its 10 year anniversary is the Annual White Christmas thread. The Weather forum will be pouring over charts and metrics in an attempt to predict whether or not we'll be getting a white Christmas.

In general news, Boards users were paying tribute to Gay Byrne recently after news broke of his death. There were threads in After Hours and Television, while there was plenty of chatter surrounding The Late Late Show's tribute to Gay Byrne, showing just how much an impact he had on Irish society and Boards users.

With the introduction of new legislation to protect cyclists from dangerous overtakes, there has been some discussion in the Cycling forum. Some may feel that tackling congestion and providing greater infastructure would also benefit cyclists. Noteworthy is planning to investigate if Galway should invest in a bypass or if it would be better served by alternatives such as public transport and cycling facilities.

One other Newsworthy proposal that may interest Boards users is investigating academic contracts at third level. Based on a recent Journal article about the consequences of the lack of permanent jobs in academia, Noteworthy is planning to see how prevalent this is in the third level sector in Ireland and look at the impact short-term and temporary contracts are having on the sector as a whole.

That's it for me this month. We'll be back again with another update when we're on the run in to Christmas!
