I dont think you can say they wont get answers. Answering simple questions for them would be a start. ie what happened in the school that was so bad that Hawe would murder his own family rather than go back and face the consequences of what he had done.

    I can answer that.
    Nothing.
There is nothing in this world that could be reason enough to kill ones own family.

while that is true SOMETHING did happen in the school and it was possibly a factor in what he ended up doing. The family have a right to know what he did. The parents of the other children in the school have a right to know what he did in the school and what was done to address it.

But we know what happened in the school? He was caught masterbating to porn in his office. Clodagh didn’t know about this at the time of her death, and he was afraid it was all going to come out on his return to work.

    Do we know it all?

Deputy principals don't generally have an office in school.

Is it possible he was terrified about the wearing of ladies' underwear was going to come out? And some sort of internalised bigotry meant he thought this would "destroy" his family?

The Claire Byrne programme was great, but a hard watch. Clodagh's family seem utterly broken, my heart broke for her mother.

Was the programme called "Her name was Clodagh" last night?

Let's not forget the 3 boys too.
    Liam, 14, Niall, 11, and six-year-old Ryan.

Clodaghs Mum and sister definitely didn't forget them and mentioned them over and over with great love

But the school authorities as far as I know havent confirmed he was caught watching porn. I think they havent given the relatives any information and it seems neither have the INTO. The family know Hawe rang the INTO but they dont know why.

Why cant they be told what happened and were disciplinary procedures taking place and were the INTO involved representing Hawe.

I think they have a right to know about everything that was going on in the period leading up to the murders.

Agreed but I think the programme name was born out of a hashtag at the time of her death, when she was basically a footnote in her own murder; often referred to as “the wife of Alan”, and never by her own name.

That's right, I remember that now.
    Thanks

Did I hear Clodaghs sister sadly mention that her husband had also passed away ?
Jacqueline spoke so lovingly about her sister and nephews

Why did AH move money between bank accounts AFTER he has murdered his family?

What was the purpose of that? Surely its all irrelevant at that point, when he knows he is about to kill himself?

I didnt see the show but read about it in the Irish times, it said that he'd watched porn in school and was getting counselling because he liked to watch porn, surely this cant be a genuine reason for murdering your whole family? - not that theres any good reason to do such a thing but as excuses go, that's fairly out there. Surely theres more shame associated with being a cold blooded murderer than watching a bit of porn? I get it was inappropriate to say the least, watching porn in school, but theres no logic to this at all. Was it illegal porn? Its just so messed up, that poor family and those poor kids falling victim to a psychopath who they trusted. Its scary to think how psychopaths like him can come across so normal, he was described as a pillar of the community if I remember correctly. Its f'ed up beyond belief.

Watching porn of any type on a computer in school would have been good reason to sack Hawe because an act of indecency on school property goes against the school's ethos. After all, it wasn't that long ago that teachers were sacked for a lot less.

So that his parents and brothers would receive the money after he killed himself.

He wanted his own family to be the beneficiaries of what little money they had, and not Clodagh’s. Controlling til the bitter end.

The Irish edition of The Sun must have heard it from people who were "in the know" about it.

How did he kill himself, haven't seen it mentioned in any of the articles I read.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,800 ✭✭✭tretorn

The family need facts though and if the porn allegations are true then the information is on file.

The file should be given to the relatives, there is no good reason not to ease their suffering.

Also where is the work lap top he was using, even if he wiped it experts would be able to retrieve the history and see what he was watching, why cant this be done and his search history be disclosed to the Colls.

Hung himself. Care would he take a hatchet to his precious self though.
Feel awful for the guard who walked in on that scene. Apparently she broke down at the trial when describing finding the little boys.

What is it with this country that makes it as difficult as possible for families to get closure?

There is a legacy of it, from the likes of this case and going back through the churches child abuse, selling off babies to the US, Magdelene laundries etc.

FFS tell the family what they need to know! Their lives have been ruined, why make it harder for them!!

    Agree with you.

These organisations should at least give the family an explanation as to why they won't release the information.

He told his counsellor that he had an issue with a work colleague.

So that his parents and brothers would receive the money after he killed himself.

That's absolutely despicable. What a vile, evil, lame excuse for a human being.

That would give you the shivers, that he was able to be ice cold enough to move money after he brutally killed them.
Also for his family, what a horrible, horrible 'gift' to get.

He was probably thinking of funeral costs. Her family were hardly going to bury him.

If they had been shown the letter at the time they wouldn't have buried him with his victims.

Yeah, fair enough I suppose. Hadn't thought of that.

No, I think it was just him being controlling to the very end. He even left instructions in the note he wrote about some of Clodagh’s jewellery that should go to her mother, and that his brother (I think) should get the car.
As far as I’m aware, funeral costs will come out of a persons estate before any beneficiaries get anything.
He may well have had issues with depression, but I fail to believe that he also didn’t have at least one personality disorder - Narcissistic Personality disorder being top of the list.

Could it have been that this colleague walked in on him, Hawe was pressuring him not to report it. They broke up for the summer, the conflict continued throughout the summer with the colleague finally insisting he was going to report what he had seen when they recommence in September? Hawe cancels all his counselling sessions and begins his demise, rather than face any disciplinary action for his inappropriate act.
