is this a game 3 rematch.

3 Team Brain v Team Free
9 Team Free v Team Brain

It is indeed - both teams suffered a loss in earlier rounds, so entered the losers bracket at different stages. Basically, both teams are the best of the teams that lost a game, i think.

Are we going to do another world cup in future. This is fun.

Couole of suggestions id make. The winners in this round are "seeded" v the winning loosers.

Games are played over 3 legs with each team taking a turn at blue/red and coin toss for 3rd game if needed.

    The colours don't matter, its the 9 v 8 words/going 1st v 2nd, that should be alternated.

Good ideas and points. Would love to do a few tournaments. Would be great if someone would look at organising the next one though. Not too much to it, and i can share the website that generated the structure. Just good to get another tournament mod on board.

Thats obviously what i meant :P . Every game i played has had blue on 9 and red on 8. Didnt realise colour assignments were random

I can organise the next one if people like. Won't be playing probably unless there's uneven numbers

Maybe try a round robin style tournament next time? Could add in Home and away games, for the 1st/2nd thing.

How many teams do you think we would need to make that work well?

Guffy, you want me to captain this one so you can banter? :D
I give you my word as a scotsman that I won't pick any fights this time.

If we had 8 teams, could do 2 groups of 4, with a semi final-final knockout?

6 would probably work as well to be fair.

However, to be pedantic - that would be a Codenames league, not a Codenames World Cup :D

I can't access the board as phone has no battery and the site is blocked in work. You mind doing this one and I will do the next one (when we win!).

Well to be pedantic, is the world cup not a group stage league format and then a knockout? :pac:

Yeah but its gotten way too commercialised and boring, especially in the league phase. Better back in the day when it was straight knockout, imo!

Kolido's is closer to WC format than the present one, with his group stage filtering into the elimination stage.

Yes, I was thinking more of a league, where every team gets to play every other team at least once, 6 nations does it once.

That was the type of tournament I was thinking of tbh.

More a league than a knockout to give everyone fair crack of the whip.

Once the structure is set up the players themselves kind of run it by reporting results in a separate thread. League table gets updated after each round of games.
Can finish it off with semi-finals and finals which are best of 3/5 then after the league format concludes. But depending on team numbers I'd be looking at each team playing each other twice.

Culminating in the Codenames Super Bowl.

    So points structures:

    3 points for a win

1 point for a 1 clue remaining loss? Sort of like a Bonus Point I guess.

-1 point for losing by hitting assassin.

Not set in stone btw, just trying to work it out in my head. Once I have the structure I can set things in motion following the World Cup Conclusion.

    3 for a win.

1 for losing with 2 words left.

I've been thinking of a way for the boards to be generated without possibility of trawling for a preferential board.

Currently, in a casual game, the board generator offers the other team choice, like the cutter of the cake offering the other person first pick, as he has cut it to what's fair in his mind, so either slice is perfect.

If who goes first choice is removed, then we need remove the choice of boards from the captains too.
if the players both send the two captains a word( keep it secret players. then order the words with the team who has been scheduled to go first.
    example.
Team1 & Team2 (Team2 is scheduled to go first this game)

    players for team1 and team2 send both captains a word. t1 = sock ; t2 = skyscraper.

both captains receive these words and know t2 is going first so the board they will be using is skyscrapersock and team2 goes first.

    Well...

An impartial organiser (I've already nominated myself)
Could send the captains the board which would remove the possibility of favoured boards....
