Iarnród Éireann has announced a new CEO is to take over next year.

David Franks has been named as the next Chief Executive, when Dick Fearn retires in February.

The 55-year-old has previosuly worked at the UK division of the French National Railways and Stockholm Metro.

    A very significant appointment IMO.

The Bord Snip-SNCF "Expression of Interest" in the CIE operations as a whole puts Mr Franks in a pivotal position in any negotiations going forward.

Mr Franks would, presumably,be well accquainted with the SNCF Team who drew up the "EOI".

I would suggest that this is a very astute appointment indeed ;)

Franks has a very poor record at National Express, he took over when they had about 8 franchises, when he left they had one left and the last two they lost (East Coast and East Anglia) were in many peoples view the poorest franchises in the UK who struggled to even get the basics right.

Lets hope he does better here.

His distinguished record also includes heading Keolis' failed bid for the UK West Coast franchise, which the French specifically headhunted him for. :o

So CIE/IE headhunt another waste of space - there's a surprise then. They would be better headhunting somebody from the Severn Valley Railway or the Festiniog Railway but then they don't want somebody who knows what they are doing.
