Does anyone know if Lucas is Irish eligible? If so then I could see a deal somewhere happening but as Buer says it's more likely the IRFU will move a chess piece already under contract...

I doubt it. He's the youngest of 4 professional rugby playing brothers. If they were Irish qualified, I'm sure we'd have seen it raised before now.

Yeah, saw it, Lydon as experienced 15/10 would have been ideal

Aly Muldowney not giving a very praiseworthy review of his start at Connacht. Has been fairly damning of management in the past also.

Edit: just to clarify, he's been critical of certain aspects of management in the past. Not all of it.

Yeah should have linked that sorry. He did also say he and his family absolutely loved Galway and didn't want to leave, and that his stretch at Connacht was probably his favourite time at a club.

To be honest hard to be too optimistic imo about immediate future with squad. Hopefully it works out in 2-3 years that some of the younger players and by extension, Connacht, really benefit from opportunities they might not have got in ordinary times.

Masterson, Sullivan, and Dean are 22 or close, so "normal age" let's say in their position to be promoted.

will be more difficult for Duggan and Murray physically..

Reilly is 4th choice and I doubt both Marms and Blade (maybe none), will be often stuck with Ireland, so we'll be ok there

No SOB 2.0, it's to be noticed..

Anyone know what's the story with Colm de Buitléar? He wasn't one of the 6 promoted but I think this should have been his last season in the academy. Is he being let go?

Still awaiting announcements on Jonny Murphy, Cillian Gallagher, Eoghan Masterson, Luke Carty, and Colm de Buitléar.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,963 ✭✭✭connachta

    Senior squad, for now

    Position |1st |2nd|3rd| 4th
    LH Prop|Buckley|McAllister|M.Burke|Duggan
    Hooker|Heffernan|Delahunt|Murphy|
    TH Prop|Bealham|McCoy|Aungier| Kenny
    n°4 2nd Row|Dillane|Roux| Gallagher
    n°5 2nd Row|Thornbury|Murray|
    Blindside Flanker|Boyle|Dowling|
    Openside Flanker|Bultler|Oliver|
    n°8 | SOB|S.Masterson|
    SH | Marmion | Blade | Kerrins | Reilly
    OH |Carty|Fitzgerald|Dean|

    11 | Healy | Porsh |

    Inside Centre|Aki|Robb|Daly
    Outside Centre|Farrell|Arnold
    14 | S.Fitzgerald | Sullivan |
    15 |TOH|

We can't go that slim, 38 senior players

In the Academy, you might still have

DeBuitlear (Year 3 again because of injury)
    McNulty
    Tierney-Martin

    Goddard?
    SOB 2.0?
    Darragh Murray (19 y.o lock)
    Cian Prendergast (back-row)

    Far from enough

We need 2 more at the very very very least

a n°8 as S.Masterson can't replace both Copeland and McKeon
a utility back, we have only 5 on the list...

That's why I talked about position
Far more common for a back-line or back-row player to step up at this age, than for locks and props (even if there's exception due to specific athletism)

Probably doing another year in the academy, given he was injured for the year

In the end it's just about the Wootton and Wiese moves which still don't come despite being rumoured...

Them or someone else, we can't do without these n°8 and utility back...
Tierney Martin would cover 4th choice hooker I guess

Not really nice to laugh at somebody's post considering some of tripe you come up with.

Oisin McCormack(Garbally), Diarmuid McCormack(Corinthians-Clongowes) and Donnacha Byrne(Sligo) are all definitely going to be there, as homegrown backrows.

One would assume Josh Dunne(Exile) will stick around but he may not.

So then it's just really Hubert Costello(Corinthians), who may or may not.. I think he will get in there as he is the 4th of the talented homegrown backrows from next years 20's.

I'd be surprised if we don't try bring in one of the props from this years Irish u20s. I also would have thought Culliton and Kilgallen at least have a chance, I think Culliton could be quite good. Costello maybe. If we do the same as last year and bring in our best u19s then maybe Kolo Kiripati, altough I think McCormack and Jennings were the exception rather than the rule.

McCormack and Jennings had to be kept away from Galway GAA, they managed to do that with academy offers. Lost Kilcommins though it seems.

Yeah i'd expect a irish u20 prop who didn't make leinster academy to come west. Noonan most likely.

Forgot about Kilgallen, i'd expect he'd get a chance.

Eoin DeBuitlear at hooker could come in, Kiripati not yet.
